"Curcuma Cocina Vegana Natural y Alimentacion Consciente" is one of the best vegetarian / vegan choices to try in El Chálten, having lots of vegan main dishes and appetizers beside diverse choices of juices and some interesting desserts. The price is a little bit higher than the other places on the town, but remember that this is Patagonia, and we see that the ingredients are fresh and of quality, and beside that, the flavors and preparations are really carefully done. It doesn't open in Fall / Winter seasons, the. The ambient is small and rustic kind of a little cottage, with playful decoration along the small tables, and it was in expansion when we visited it - the service was good.
We received a starter with chickpea with celery (that was a bit mushy), and ordered a Wrap (humus, spouts and salted vegetables for 400ARS) and the Hamburguesa (of adzuki bean, with carrot creamy, mani brown rice salted with grilled vegetables and potatoes, also for 400ARS), beside a Mate with Cocoa and coconut and a Melissa tea. We've heard so much about the Pizza with cashew cheese but they didn't have when we visited it... It also sells lunch boxes to bring with you on the trails (for about 300-400ARS) and fruits as well.
Like I said before, the prices are just a bit higher, but that is totally justifiable because of the quality and quantity of food, that are satisfying and light at the same time, being a perfect choice to eat before or during a trail (or if you are vegan). We will surely return in the future, and do...
Read moreHuge disappointment and waste of money. I understand El Chalten is expensive but this place is an absolute rip off.
On arrival, We asked twice for the music to be turned down as we could barely speak to each other it was that loud, but the staff persisted to turn it back up. The table next to us were actively turning it down at the speaker themselves and again the staff would turn it back up, So oblivious that their customers were unhappy.
Secondly, we ordered wraps which took over an hour to arrive. The restaurant was almost empty and not a single thing in this dish was cooked so no idea why the service was so slow!! During this long waiting time, not a single member of staff asked if we wanted a drink or offered us water (we had to ask, twice).
We kept trying to make eye contact with them to ask if everything was okay and it was obvious that they were avoiding us.
The food eventually arrived, it was fine but arepas were cold and soggy. For the price (24,000) it was absolutely not worth it. The smoothies were average and the turmeric latte was just hot water mixed with a turmeric sugary juice, not fresh tumeric.
I wouldn’t have went to this effort writing this review if the staff were atleast aware of their terrible, slow customer service.
So many other great options in El Chalten, save your money,...
Read moreHomely vegan restaurant with kind service. Good taste, in particular loved the coloring of the dishes. They were great to see. It was nice looking around in the kitchen also and talk about our cooking experience. I've also given you some tips, like trying out new spices that look like the ones you already use, like Galangal or lemongrass. I think you guys can do great things with those. Also, try to keep your dried apples in smaller pots rather than a big jar , this will keep them more crunchy. When you dry banana, use a bit of lemon so that the banana stays nicely yellow. Otherwise it will turn brownish, which tastes good but doesn't look very appealing. In general, I don't like the apples (manzanas) in Argentina, which were also in your kitchen. They are coated with wax to make them shiny and glossy. It's also in supermarkets and restaurants. Perhaps you can find out if you can get un-waxed, natural (non industrial treated), apples.
Also, don't worry too much about carbohydrates and gluten. Unless someone is gluten sensitive, there is no scientific proof that gluten are bad for you. In fact, research has shown gluten are healthy and should not be left out, unless someone has an...
