I was fortunate enough to attend a concert here last night and fell in love with this piece of Queensland heritage. Someone cleary takes a lot of pride in caring for it and presenting the historical items while providing a majestic entertainment space for events. There are quite a number of historical displays that are well worth a look (the building is open to the public during the day), especially in the old state room, though thankfully the history hasn't been whitewashed either. Alongside the beautifully painted ornamental screen and old documents in the state room there is information on the running of the house, the servants and supplies: the nitty-gritty behind the dignified front and politic gravitas. Across the courtyard the storerooms and trade entrance have been preserved, but rather usefully now double as the toilets as well. This place shines at night, and if you were considering a classy function this would be a distinguished atmosphere. The chandelier is brilliant, and the old woodwork glows in the soft lighting. For an event of up to about a hundred people (though I imagine you could squeeze in more if you wished) old government house would be small enough to be intimate, but spacious and well apportioned enough to allow for fluid event organisation. The acoustics are resonant and flattering for live music. Truly a beautiful place. I feel priveleged to have been able to see it at night.

Awesome restored govt building. The renovated building preserved the characteristics of an old building and definitely takes you back in time. Upstairs bedrooms are converted into an art gallary and displays the work of australian artist William Robinson. Downstairs there is a cafe with courtyard converted into open sitting area with big stone walls. Cellar room in basement is preserved well, the narrow stairs with low head gap is spared rennovation and it goes so well with entire scheme of things. There is a virtual room that has 3D model of entire Govt house that you can navigate on screen using a xbox controller Heritage well stored.

Beautiful and lovely house, especially from the outside. The decor and design and the general architecture is amazing. The inside is a little barren and bare but there's enough information to tell you what each room used to be for. The carpets and lighting especially in the entrance hallway are amazing. The information about the formation and flags of Queensland are brilliant. Friendly volunteer at the front desk although two random members of security tried to kick me out before realising that the building actually was open that day so they don't seem to coordinate very well. Some areas seemed to be closed off.

Full of different artworks and paintings, it is quite a nice, but also quick walk through. It is located within QUT, and has a little cafe attached, so it could definitely be a place to go with art-enthusiasts or culture seekers. For the general public, it’s probably somewhere you may go once, just to see what it is like, but never again. I personally really liked the artworks with the cows. I thought they were pretty cute, and I liked how there was an ongoing theme.

What a gem! The house is amazing but the way the history has been presented in the rooms and the open door policy (basically, if it's not locked, you can wander in and make yourself at home) really gave the whole experience a fun Dora the Explorer vibe😀There is also an excellent lift for people with mobility issues. The gallary on the 2nd level was also charming. Catch the ferry over to complete this fun trip.

We were brought here by our Brisbane Greeters volunteer guide. He told us that apparently people in the olden days were small sized which explains the really unusual design feature found on the doors in the government house. All the doors were really low with bulb handles located at hobbit height. I’ve never seen anything like this!
