Great Barrier Reef & Green Island Tours — Attraction in Cairns City

We had a fabulous half-day trip to Green Island. We made our booking directly at the terminal/booking office about 30 minutes before the 1pm ferry was about to depart. The booking process was easy, and details were well explained. The ferry ride over was smooth.

We were booked on the 2:15pm glass bottom boat; the lady who led the tour was knowledgeable and informative. She explained the fauna well and her style was engaging.

The half day tour provides enough time for a leisurely stroll around the island which takes about 30 minutes (more if you stop to look at things).

Instructions throughout the tour were clear, especially reminders about returning to the ferry by 4pm in order to catch the 4:15 ferry back to Cairns.

All in all, it was a well run operation, things were on time and progressed smoothly, and staff were welcoming and helpful.

Our party consisted of three adults, including one person in their late 80s. The tour was comfortable for a person who doesn't walk more than 5-10mins. There is the need for some climbing of stairs.

Recommended that you bring your own food to Green Island; catering options are limited to fast food or restaurant food.

Having done the outer reef and green island tours I was really hoping this tour (based on reviews) was worth it.

Positives: My kids (17 and 12) and I loved it. Staff were amazing, snorkelling was better than the other two tours and we saw several turtles. the lunch was great And drinks for purchase cheap. I would go again. Beautiful island, LOVED IT!!!!

Negatives: The only improvement would be the transport, we were on the bus for an hour before we even left cairns for the boat which was then another hour away, we also were on the bus for 2.5 hours after the long day coming back which was a bit of a nightmare. I would recommend having a few drop off spots rather than going to every hotel. I think everyone on the bus (including the driver) would agree. A very very long day. Have lived in Cairns for only 3 months in air bnb at moment, so no local I’d yet. Friends cam up from Melb and booked this tour for $440 for 2. They begged me to join them so I went to the office late marina and booked. Same ticket cost me $330!!! Told the girl that was so ridiculous and got a complete “not my problem” response. Also couldn’t get local discount regardless of giving my address. Anyway so I am off on a cruise tomorrow I only going n To keep my friends happy and got to pay $100 more than them for the pleasure! Needless to say I will be going out of my way as a local, to ensure none of my interstate friends book with this company in future. No wonder there are hardly and tourists here at the moment and everyone is going to Europe! Thanks...
