On the day we went we specifically went to see the Amorphophallus titanum common name corpse flower. We did not get to see the whole park but we lined up for 1.5hrs giving us a lot of time in the front part of the park which the side we were lined up was all Australian natives which were divine. There was also a basin part which with gravel and rocks and on the other side a great collection of Cacti. As we came nearer to the glass house there was a beautiful path lined with palm trees and English cottage plants which was attracting so many bees and butterflies the kids just loved it. Entering the green house it was beautiful small but flourishing with bromeliads, Tillandsia usneoides (spanish moss), Asplenium australasicum (bird nest ferns) and other lush plans incased in the middle was a beautiful water feature created with what I believe was slate I simply love stone masonry and was filled with fish. As we got to the corpse flower oh my it did definitely not disappoint it was gracious and beautiful in all its glory. As we exited the glass house we were instantly hit with the amazing fragrant from the Magnolia figo (port wine magnolia) I absolutely adore this fragrance its smell hubba bubba like and the cute miniature flower is adorable. Then right next to that is the roses and oh my lord we were once again in fragrant heaven and surrounded by a beautiful array of roses. I highly recommend heading to Geelong Botanical gardens. And we only saw 1/4 of if it and...
ย ย ย Read moreI visited the Geelong botanical gardens on a sunny day and I was amazed by the beauty and diversity of the plants. The gardens are located within Eastern Park, which is a large and green space that offers a great view of the bay. The gardens are free to enter and open every day from 8 am to 5 pm.
The gardens have a rich history, as they were established in 1850 and are the fourth oldest botanic garden in Australia. They have a collection of plants from around the world, including pelargoniums, salvias, heritage roses, and indigenous plants. They also have a glasshouse conservatory that showcases tropical and subtropical plants, such as orchids, bromeliads, and ferns.
The gardens are well maintained and very scenic. I enjoyed walking along the paths and admiring the different colours and shapes of the flowers. I also learned a lot from the informative signs and labels that explained the names and origins of the plants. The gardens are a great place to relax and enjoy nature, as well as to learn about botany and horticulture.
The Geelong botanical gardens are a must-see attraction for anyone who loves plants and gardens. They are a treasure for the city of Geelong and a source of pride for the community. I highly recommend visiting them if you have the chance. You will...
ย ย ย Read moreWe had a Groupon deal for a devonshire tea. We had beautiful warm fresh scones with jam and cream. There was only 1 each (cut in two) but a good size so was enough to satisfy your hunger. They were dilicious. The coupon included a hot drink. The four of us all had tea which came in "a pot for one" each or "pots for two". We decided on the two pots as they would take up less room on the small table. The teapots had plenty of tea in them for several cups each, albeit small cups. The tea wasn't a brand that I recognised but was very nice and wish I had written the name of it down. I did notice that you could buy lunch items and other drinks as well as have the devonshire tea. Inside was quite small, there were only about 3 small round tables of 3 so we just put an extra chair to one of the tables. Outside there were tables with umbrellas but the weather wasn't good. It would have been very relaxing sitting outside had the weather been nice. I had rung prior to make sure there was enough room inside for us. We enjoyed our visit to the cafe and didn't wander around the gardens. We did need to book, but not sure if that was normal or only because it was a...
