We stayed at the Mansfield ski lodge and came to know about Grimus ski hire from the lodgeâs website which mentioned âdiscounted ski hire from Pension Grimusâ (The discount is a default 10% for anyone ordering from Grimus ski hire online)
It was our first time at Mt Buller so the three of us including my wife and son enrolled for ski lessons and decided to hire ski gear and equipment the previous evening. My son and I were fitted with ski boots on both legs and we fortunately found the right fit soon. The lady assisting my wife found it necessary only to fit the right boot and said that it was all that was required. As it was our first time, we regrettably trusted her expertise.
The next day we reached early, lugging our ski equipment and gear from the lodge, for the ski lesson. I guess Murphyâs law kicked in and try as we may, my wife simply could not fit her left leg into the ski boot. We frantically took it to Bv!!3r $p0r7$ staff nearby and got confirmation that the boot was not the right fit. We could have taken the boot back to Grimus. However, in order to avoid the inconvenient walk back to Grimus lugging the heavy ski gear in relentless freezing rain and the imminent risk of missing our lesson, we decided it was best to hire from 6v!!3r $p0r7$, which shared the same premise as the ski school. The staff there quickly fitted my wife and ensured it was the right fit. We paid full price for hiring the new ski boots as they could not process an exchange from Grimus. The manager at 6v!!3r $p0r7$ however told us that we could get a refund for my wifeâs unused boots when returning the eqpt and kindly agreed to keep the unused ski boots in her office while we went skiing.
Although newbies in skiing, we noticed the weathered, dated appearance of the ski gear we hired from Grimus in comparison to the equipment at 6v!!3r $p0r7$. The staff at the latter biz also seemed friendlier, approachable and happy to ensure the correct fit for us.
When we returned the ski equipment to Grimus, we showed the receipt of our ski boot hire from 6v!!3r $p0r7$ and asked for a refund. The staff informed us that as a rule they didnât process refunds and called the manager. The manager told us that since we had hired the boots, as part of a package with other equipment, the refund worked out to only about $10. He said that it was too much of a hassle to process a small refund amount and not worth their while if the refund amount was not in the $100âs! He told us that he would only issue us store credit if at all! We were all tired and in no mood to argue over the $10, so decided to not pursue it further. Bear in mind that we also had to pay $42 for the ski boot hire from 6v!!3r $p0r7$ as it wasnât part of a package.
Interestingly, after returning home, I jumped online to the Grimus ski hire page to discover the default 10% discount on all online orders! Out of curiosity, I proceeded to place the order for the same equipment and gear we previously hired in-store and my suspicion was right. Ordering online turned out to be a couple of dollars less! The manager who billed us in person at the store did manage to make us feel special by granting us the â10% discount for M@n$field lodge customersâ. In fact, We ended up getting charged a couple of dollars more than what it would have, if we had simply ordered online. Donât know if this is an error or a reflection of a donât care attitude. (Invoice and quote attached) Didnât bother calling Grimus for the $2 difference as it would possibly be ânot worth their whileâ.
My recommendation for all future first timers intending to hire ski equipment and gear for ski lessons - show up a couple of hours before the lesson and hire from the ski hire place adjacent to the school.
In hindsight, it was best to hire the entire ski gear from 6v!!3r $p0r7$ on the day to avoid the inconvenience of lugging the ski gear up and down from the ski lodge and further avoid the careless error with the...
Read moreTHey are very friendly and "caring" on the surface, but frankly, they do not really bother to fit people with the right equipment. This was the first time for us to try to ski, so everything was very unusual. As I thought -and advised on their website - firts timers should just go with the "premium set" (cheapest one), we paid online. The guy serving us briefly held the skis in front of my face, thats all. The skis, ski boots, snow boots, clothes, with a cool-ish negligent "yeah, all good" attitude. The Ski clothes were very outdated in style, very used, I would say at least 10 years old, and very VERY heavy. As everything was a very intense sensation, plus struggling with 2 young kids, the weight of everything was almost unmanageable, but I just. I did 4 days of ski lessons, with an utter struggle. Eventually on the last day dawned on me, that my boots were like 3 sizes bigger, and AFTER I did some more reading, I realised that FITTING SKIS is MOSTLY about your WEIGHT. Which wasn't checked by anyone. I am 173 cm, 52kg, and no one bothered to warn me that the 152cm men's skis they throw at me just wont obey. That skis come with dfferent flex, and other qualities, and there are WOMEN"S skis, especially for ppl who are tall but light. No one bothered to check that on the paper I needed to fill out, what size my feet were either, I realised on the last day that I'm weraing like 3 sizes bigger boots than my feet. My husband was given so small boots that he was in pain. Yes, we did pay the "cheapest" option, but God, they are still in the hundreds! I am a full beginner, so they SHOULD EVEN MORE HELP PEOPLE, and not being so careless, negligent and didinterested. Seriously, I wasted the thousands on the ski lessons and equipment. They say they are experts, oh well, then behave like one! You guys are responsible not only for taking the money, but also to help people, especially inexperienced ones with INFORMATION AND ADVICE. I am utterly disapointed with the service there. For that money we pay, we should be given apropriate advice, help and equipment. If there's a price difference, we should be offered a choice to upgrade on the spot. The customer care is...
Read moreI was just reminded of my renting from here in late june. Most of the staff was kind and helpful, however one member with short curly hair insisted i go a size down in snowboard boots despite me being adamant that it didnât fit and i have snowboarded multiple times before. I told them i understand it is supposed to be tight but 25.5 is just too tight however they insisted and my feet were extremely sore and cramped at the end of the day resulting in me missing out on hours of my lift pass. I went the next day and exchanged my boots for size 26.5 (which i usually wear) and my experience was fine from there. I understand they are professionals but if you have experience and know itâs way too small and a size is still small enough to be tight then trust your gut and tell them that you wonât take the size they are trying to...
