Regardless of the weather, this place can be paradise to the optimistic mind. Through a cold winter wind that was more persistent than a teen boy on a first date, I battled through and explored by foot the distance out to the break wall point and down and around the whole park. I was passed by many like me, fitness fanatics, couples and families of all ages who saw the beauty in such a view despite the dreary outlook of the day.
As someone who has limited time in Newcastle and has no idea what the city has to offer, I was absolutely delighted to spend an afternoon in the vicinity of the park, beach and bay. There are many excellent points to sit and watch the freight liners get tugged off and all the facilities you would need to satisfy a decent day out with family and friends.

Read moreNice little Beach. Good Kiosk with very good coffee, bit pricey. Nobby's ranges from flat as a tack to rough for swimmers. It has a great rock pool if you go when the tide is fairly low. Generally a good beach for kids. Further up the beach board riders seem to find good waves. Usually patrolled during the usual times. Good toilet facilities, but, no soap and only one hand basin outside the door to wash hands. Previously had large public showers but these were removed to cater to the failed Grand Prix crowds.
