Admiralty House — Attraction in Sydney

As the official Sydney residence for the Governor General of Australia, Admiralty House is located in the Kirribilli suburb. The residence has beautiful views of the Sydney Harbor including the Sydney Harbor Bridge, the Sydney Opera House and Darling Harbor. The mansion's exterior is made of sandstone in an Italianate style. In 1885, the Royal Navy's Australian Squadron was raised to the status of an Admiral's command in recognition of the colony's growing importance. The last British admiral left the house in 1913 and the Royal Australian Navy took over responsibility for the naval defence of Australia. Along with the British Navy Admiral's departure, came the transfer of the House to the Governor General of Australia, who used the the residence from 1913-1928. Now the home is used by visiting dignitaries such as the British Royals and the President and f the United States. The residence is only open to the public once a year in the Spring. I’m so lucky to have seen that the Governor’s residence was open for one day in the year to welcome the public, and it was this weekend. I saw it on social and so I decided to go and I’m so glad I did. One of the best view of Sydney. The house is splendid. We visited some of the rooms downstairs.
