I have never stayed at a Park Hyatt before and this was my first experience. Definitely a memorable experience and has convinced me to try to stay at more Park Hyatt's in the future. I hope that every other place is as detailed oriented as this establishment.
Right when we got there, the staff at the round about parking area immediately came to the car doors and opened the doors for us and another person was already in the process of moving the luggage from the car to their dolly. They watched our stuff while we checked in and brought up the stuff to our room once everything was finalized.
Check in was very easy and smooth. The potential room upgraded was already done and we got upgraded to "Guest in the residence". I believe this is the king bedroom with opera view and with 2 balconies.
The room: The view was absolutely amazing!! The room also has 2 types of curtains (one being a shade type curtain and the other a black out curtain). They supplied plenty of complimentary water bottles and several pieces of chocolate. The towels were the extra long ones and they felt quite heavy. The robes were quite heavy as well. Definitely using a better product. The shower had the shower head and rain shower overhead. I loved using both. Unfortunately, you could not use both at the same time. There was a his and her sink and a separate room for the toilet. I wish that room had a plug so I could use the hair dryer there because I thought using the hair dryer would disturb the baby's sleep since the crib was near the bed. The automatic toilet was awesome. The seat was always warm =D I could not hear any outside ambient noise within the room. One cool thing was when you click on the private button, if a person on the outside tries to ring the doorbell, nothing happens inside the room.
One detail I extremely liked was the crib. The crib came set up, with towels in it for the baby, a set of baby shampoos, and even a stuffed animal koala bear holding a baby koala (not sure if this was intentional or just luck =P) But we as parents absolutely loved it. Another thing was there was a flight of stairs to reach to our floor level and the stairs happened to be by the concierge desk and every time they saw us, they would always offer to help us carry the stroller up. About 50% of the time we took them up on their offer. It was a very nice gesture. We had complimentary breakfast and on the day of check out, we had to leave early and they were kind enough to still prepare out breakfast orders and allow us to take it with us. I just had to fill out a form but we thoroughly appreciated it.
Side perk: I absolutely love their body lotion. Smells great!! On one of the days it rained and they were kind enough to let us borrow an umbrella. (this is true of most hotels)
The dining room area is where we had our breakfast and in addition to the view, the food was excellent. Definitely a little pricey if you had to pay for it but you are sort of paying for the view.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place. They know how to take...
Read moreMy wife and I recently spent two nights in Sydney at the Park Hyatt after arriving in Australia from the United States, (Washington DC) – a 30 hour trip, including a nine hour layover in Los Angeles. We were excited about staying at the Park Hyatt, due to the fact that our daughter was married at the DC Park Hyatt, and the fact that the Sydney Park Hyatt was right on the harbor, overlooking the Sydney Opera House.
Our high expectations were crushed by two very unfortunate incidents that occurred during our stay. The first involved the TV in our room turning on by itself. Since the unit was wired through a pedal stand, there was no way to disconnect it. My wife and I managed to stay awake until 9:30 PM trying to avoid the jet lag, and were awoken the first night around 10 to 15 minutes after turning out the lights by the TV turning on. After two visits from hotel staff and numerous phone calls, it was determined that it couldn’t be fixed. We were offered the “opportunity“ to get dressed, pack up our suitcases and move rooms. We declined, instead covering the TV with blankets, and finally fell asleep.
To make a long story shorter, we were told it was fixed as we went to sleep on night two, but it wasn’t. It was, however, rewired so we could unplug it.
By this time, however, we had a second problem – our phone couldn’t call the front desk, so every time I needed to talk to the concierge or front desk I had to leave the room and go to the hotel lobby. By this time you’re thinking, this can’t be real, but it was!
My wife and I asked that they “comp” at least one, if not both of our nights at the hotel, but instead were offered a $200 gift certificate which we declined, pretty much having decided it would be very unlikely that we would ever stay there again. We were then offered a $200 credit at the hotel restaurant. We had decided not to dine at the hotel, instead making reservations at a local spot, about which we had heard great things. Somewhat coerced into the decision, we took the $200 credit and canceled our other plans.
We lodged a complaint with upper management at the hotel, who told us that we should have accepted the offer of moving to another room – shifting the responsibility to us to remedy the situation. Even if we had moved rooms, packing up after we had gone to bed, the first night should have been comp’d. No guest should have to pay for a room in which they had the experience we had.
The result: Two unhappy guests, a travel broker that will never use the property again, and a reputation for taking the position that the guest is always wrong!
Shame on the Sydney Park Hyatt and its senior management. Kudos to the front desk and night management staff that even though they were unsuccessful, worked hard to get it right. Bottom line, when in Sydney, pick another hotel with a nice view...

Elise at the front desk warmly greeted us with a big smile as we walked in and gave us a lovely flower bouquet, and said happy birthday. She was incredibly nice, extremely friendly, funny, and very helpful! She showed us around the property and our room where there was a birthday card, a bottle of champagne and a slice of birthday cake from Mr. Dabinett, the hotel manager. Elise went above & beyond to ensure we were happy throughout our stay. Every interaction was warm and welcoming. She introduced us to the other employees, who were also very friendly, including Prapti & Abhi at the concierge desk. They helped with great recommendations and were able to get us a reservation at Mr. Wong's, where we had a wonderful meal.
Every employee we interacted with at this hotel was fantastic. From the bellmen to the restaurant and cleaning staff, everyone was so nice & polite.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return & spend more time at this lovely establishment that is staffed by incredible people.
Thank you very much for all your help, Elise, Prapti, Abhi & everyone else at the Park Hyatt! You truly made my my birthday trip a memory that will last a lifetime!
