If you're planning on watching an opera, play or theatrical performance at the Sydney Opera house, expect it to be in the Joan Sutherland Theatre. With a large stage area to accommodate small intimate settings or vast expansive environments that make you feel like you're peaking into a large ballroom filled with people, the Joan Sutherland Theatre will do it all. While it isn't as luxurious Nas the grand concert hall, you'll quickly forget where you are due to its great acoustics and ambience.
I recommend getting something in row F in the circle as this seems to be the best value seating with the highest acoustics fidelity and clearest view of the entire stage and orchestra pit if your personal includes one.

Read moreWe attended a performance of the Little Prince, tonight. The Joan Sutherland Theatre was pretty much packed and the audience really loved the show. The performance was extremely evocative and filled with longing and nostalgia and followed the little prince on his travels from one different world to another. Held together by a beautifully narrated story and lovely vocals to a contemporary orchestral and electronic music score. The beautiful innocence and naivety of the little prince was wonderfully portrayed and the characters he met and interacted with along the way charmed the appreciative audience. A lovely, lovely performance: a really inexpected delight on the Joan Sutherland Theatre stage. Only two more performances to go if you want two hours of a dreamy excape from...

Be aware though that if you're sitting right up the back like we were, there are a deceptively large number of staircases you will need to climb, and I wasn't aware of there being an elevator at all. You'll climb what you think are a lot of stairs and see a nice open foyer area and think "oh! This must be where my allocated entry door is!" but nope, it's another viewing platform, and you've got about 4 more staircases to go. Worried? just book...
