Hickson Road Reserve is one of Sydney’s most stunning and underrated public spaces. Tucked beneath the southern approach to the Harbour Bridge, it offers a postcard-perfect perspective of the Opera House across the harbour, framed by the sweep of Circular Quay and the ever-changing movement of ferries and water taxis.
What sets this place apart is how effortlessly it connects monumental infrastructure with quiet human scale. From an architectural and urban design perspective, it's an exceptional example of spatial layering—where industrial heritage, iconic landmarks, and natural elements all coexist. The views are cinematic, yet the space feels deeply personal. It's no surprise this spot is popular for weddings and photography—there’s something timeless and dignified about it.
The reserve itself is simple and beautifully maintained: generous lawns, mature palms, and just enough seating to linger without overcrowding. Whether you’re watching the light shift over the water, enjoying a peaceful walk, or catching the sparkle of the city skyline at dusk, Hickson Road Reserve delivers one of the most immersive views in Sydney.

The location is popular with photographers (Tip: bring a zoom lens to get a close up of the Opera House Sails) and it can be booked out for outdoor weddings.
The nearest public toilet is unfortunately in...
