Great location. Good facilities. But let down by terrible noise transfer between floors. And poor cleaning, many of the common areas need a deep detailed clean. The room I had was very spacious and clean, the beds were comfy. But very little natural light. With very weak LED lighing in the bathroom and entrance way. The ensuite bathroom looked to be designed as a disabled bathroom which is great. But the shower curtain is not big enough so water ends up covering the entire bathroom. Not ideal when there are four people in the room and no bathmat, so water is trapsed into the bedroom. There is no free WiFi in the rooms, even tho WiFi is advertised as being available. There is a charge to use it in the rooms. That's deceptive. Reception was friendly and helpful. Though they didn't explain the lack of WiFi in the rooms. There is a small cafe counter. But the two times I ordered a coffee with two sugars they arrived without the sugar and I was told to put it in myself. It's a little thing but really would it have killed you to add the sugar as you were making it...no!! The common areas are spacious but the TV room smelt and had a pool table and foosball table right in front of the TV. And only beanbags to sit in to find space to watch TV. There is also a large deck with great views of the harbour. The kitchen areas were ok. But just seemed haphazardly organised, and quite dirty. Also of interest was the archaeological areas beneath the hostel. (Update) asked to move rooms mid stay. Which wasn't a problem. Was placed in a smaller room but so light and airy with great views and none of the noise issues being on the top floor. However cleaning was still an issue with the room not being cleaned a couple of the days. And I killed several huge...
Read moreI recently spent 2 nights in an ensuite room here as part of a staycation. We had seen the rooftop views before and knew they were impressive, but the quality of the entire property surprised us. The communal areas are welcoming and comfortable, with plenty of space. The kitchen area was well set up with room for 8 people/groups to prepare their food at once.
Reception sells a small number of snacks and has an espresso machine if you really can't get going before your first shot.
Our ensuite double room felt similar to a 3-star budget hotel with the added bonus of an Opera House view. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the air conditioning worked a treat on this very hot weekend.
This is not a party hostel, but having said that, there was a lovely atmosphere on the rooftop terrace where we decided on a takeaway dinner and drinks with friends to save some money. The terrace closes at 10.30pm, and we heard no noise at all overnight, so we got a great nights sleep. The terrace is also the best place to have breakfast while watching the sun rise behind the Opera House.
It's an easy flat walk to Wynyard station if you have a heavy bag or a slightly short uphill (and a bunch of stairs) from Circular Quay.
The staff we met were friendly and helpful, and I would happily stay again - beats paying a huge uber fare after a late-night event in...
Read moreThe location of this YHA is really amazing. You can see the Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Opera House from the rooftop, which is almost the best viewing spot (I even saw vivid sydney by chance)! The design of the house is very simple and the bed is very comfortable. The girls' quadruple room I booked has a separate bathroom and bathroom with dry and wet separation, which is very clean. Living on the third floor, turn right and reach the rooftop less than 5 meters away. Many people like to bask in the sun, chat and view the scenery on the rooftop. The first floor is the reception and public space. It is very large and looks like a canteen. Everyone eats and drinks here. The only drawback may be that it may be inconvenient to drag luggage in a place that requires all the way uphill. Even to the nearest train and bus station, you have to climb a while.Overall, it is highly recommended. I will stay here again next time I have the opportunity to go to Sydney.p.s. You can consider bringing your own small locking cabinet door to store valuables. If you want to buy it from them, it will cost 10 knives! A...
