Ribs & Burgers The Rocks — Restaurant in Sydney

Never been this quick to write a review.. My friends and I decided to come out to Ribs and Burgers for dinner and as the only vegan in the group I was happy to see they had some plant based options on the menu. I was confused as to why regular cheese and Mayo was listed in the burger but didn’t think much of it as I was happy to just remove them from the burger. A man who I believe may have been the manager, was kind enough to inform me that the plant based patty are cooked on the same grill as the meat patties and that he’d ensure the grill was as clean as possible before cooking my burger. When my food was served I was presented with a paper bowl of lettuce, onions and pickles topped with the plant based burger. I also wasn’t given any tomato sauce or mustard which I’m sure from the last time I checked are vegan friendly and was listed on the burger. I wasn’t given any bun with my burger because they weren’t sure of the ingredients which I thought was extremely unprofessional. As a restaurant owner/cook it’s important to know or have a list of the ingredients you use and are serving to customers for ANY dietary required whether it’s vegan or gluten free, lactose intolerant ect. My friend is extremely allergic to egg and knowing the bun was served to her, we are luckily she didn’t react. I was charged $31 for a bowl of lettuce and one patty, chips and a drink, and was rejected any sort of refund or discount off my meal. Can’t say how disappointed I am and will definitely not...

It's a perfectly reasonable braised/boiled-ribs-finished-on-flame place - don't come here expecting proper smoked BBQ ribs, and you'll have a blast. Burgers are good, too!

These do not appear to be proper American slow smoked BBQ, and that's okay, given the ribs are well sauced, the sides are good, the beer is cold, the service is fast and friendly and the crowd is happy.

The ribs are surprisingly meaty for what you usually get in Australia (we often get "shiners" in NZ/AU, where the good belly meat has been cut off, leaving the shiny bone - this doesn't appear to have happened here), but are lacking the smokiness and the tell-tale smoke ring and tender bite that BBQ slow smoked ribs have. Instead, these are very, very good versions of Aussie pub food - good ribs, braised slow, then finished with flame.

The restaurant is very smokey indeed, which may turn some people off. Beer is mostly mass market stuff, but drinkable after a day of exploring The Rocks, and the burgers are sizable and tasty. If there was a 3.5 star option, this place would get it. It's above average, good fun, and good value, but not interesting, fun or gourmet enough for that 4th or 5th star. Given that there is a very good pub serving proper US BBQ not 500m down the laneway, come here for ribs and burgers for a good time. For proper BBQ, however, you may want to travel down...

I love this place and would always recommend coming here for lunch or dinner with awesome service, great food and a fusion between vintage and a modern vibe.

The views on the Sydney Harbour Bridge with open windows on the round tables were a must snag for our party of 5. You can even spectate the chefs cooking if you really want to through open glass. There are outside tables and I love the seats inside. There is something about the colour schemes of the restaurant that really mesh well with the vintage props for the display and comfortable seats!

Service was great with big smiles and being ushered in with a welcome. Although, loses a .5 score because sometimes it's questionable and service just tries to getaway with just doing it's job. But we felt mostly welcome coming in. Also, a great lunch / dinner spot for families as well as big parties are welcomed.

The ribs were flipping magic! So tender and melts in your mouth. The best ribs I've ever tasted and I hated ribs. The peri chicken burger was great but just does it's job. Perhaps caramlise the onions so there is more flavour. The Loaded Burger was the main stair and the flipping awesome chips! This place sells one of the best chips!

I'd recommend getting the Loaded Burger with chips...
