Stayed here 1 night and the location is really great. I could roll my bags and walk from the Central Quay after an easy ride from the International Airport. Which I am guessing some people might not want to do that. My room was up high enough to see the harbor well. The room was ok - average, quite old, and worked. I had paid with my booking for 2 meals (breakfast & dinner). Apparently the restaurants are closed both Monday and Tuesday so no dinner and yet they will still sell you the food options knowing full well they won’t provide it. They were not interested in offering any solution to not getting me what I had already paid for. Uhmmm ... SO I said, "Its still breakfast (it was the day I was checking in and it was in the morning), I'd still like to check my bags now and can I have an extra breakfast instead"? Rational request - solution oriented - not being a jerk about them being perfectly ok to tell me too bad about getting screwed on the meal - in other words I'm an ideal customer when the hotel has made a problem that they already know about. WELLL That was a 2 person process to work through to get that approved. I did have breakfast (decent buffet) which I was ok with (but I'm vegan so a lot was not relevant to me which I cannot speak to the quality of). I tried vegemite correctly (with plant butter) - did not like the taste, but I am sure the intention to it is genuine. If you are vegetarian there were some options (no plant based protein except Full-English style sweetened beans), and vegan there was a juice machine and fresh fruit (hot items like mushrooms, beans, tomatoes were not marked / no labels if cooked without animal products). That night went to the roof as is shown in the all the pictures and what you are paying for is view - Great View. Pool was cold. It's winter in June so fine. Ok, Hot Tub was not ... as cold as the pool - there were 2 American ladies who had been in it for over an hour and had kept trying to get it to work so no idea if their body heat warmed it a little or just totally broken. I called front desk to let them know and they were not at all surprised; and said they'll have someone fix it now. I never got a call back that it was fixed. Rooms are quite old - functional but old enough to not be easy to see how clean it is or isn’t. Did not use shower tub because of unclean look. Didn’t use TV. As I was super tired, I just went to sleep early. Had breakfast the next morning and I was there 5 minutes early to official start. There was no one at the desk, no other customers, and so just got a table and started on what breakfast items were already set out. The waitress came back saw me and was not ok with that (I did have a flight I needed to catch super early and breakfast did not start super early). I spent a couple of minutes listening to her rudely tell me “it was not ok, that had not officially started yet, she had not checked me in, they don't have everything out yet because …, this making a problem for her, didn’t I know better” . . . as she was continuing on …. I just started multitasking and packing the banana I grabbed into my purse and poured the freshly steeped tea into my bottle (ok, she is done chastising now), and she finally asked for my room number, and I was off to the train to the airport. Old place, scam on upsells, purposely rude staff & great location - terrible customer service & poor management! Update: Just got a reply from Mgt … 1 year after 1st time I posted.

Simply the biggest rip off price wise. You pay a small fortune to stay here but it's well below par for a Rydges hotel. It's a two star hotel. If you squint hard you could possibly make it a three. The lobby is huge but outdated, dark and dim. It was probably great in the 70's but not now. The gent behind the service counter, while polite, didn't care. We had three suitcases, some carry on bags and my wife uses a walking stick. There was no offer of help to get everything to our room. He finished with me and walked off to chat with the other two staff members who were already chatting. The room itself? The carpet is stained. The bedside tables, the desk and the TV unit are all very scratched on top. I've seen better condition side tables at an op shop. The sliding door is noticeably broken and has to be forced shut. The light over the robe bench is broken. The air conditioning doesn't work unless the fan is up high, in which case it sounds like you're sleeping at the airport on the runway. It doesn't go under 19 degrees anyway. I had the worst nights sleep in months. The room was so hot it was ridiculous. The doona doesn't have a cover and is noticeably brown along the top edges from other people's sweat. There is dust on the skirting boards and chrome chair legs. Behind the TV unit looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months. The bathroom has a shower over the bath which is an OH&S risk. There is mold in the caulking around the bath and the sink. It's noticeable as soon as you walk in so I don't understand why it's not been cleaned. There is water damage to the timber panelling next to the sink. The stainless towel shelf over the bath is rusted. The ONLY good thing about this place is the pool area and view from the roof. Even then we had to avoid the cockroaches on the top flight of stairs. Three big ones. Do not stay here. The place. Is a disgrace for the money you pay.

This former Rydges Hotel is in a prime location in The Rocks. Annoyingly, even if you have prepaid in full, reception staff insist on a credit card and HOLD $50 FOR EACH DAY OF YOUR STAY to cover damages or theft. Given the hotel is older, and there is no mini-bar, and this monetary hold doesn't seem to be advertised, it feels like a bit of a scam. As for the hotel itself, it is walking distance to the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Circular Quay train station, the Light Rail (Trams) and the Ferry wharves, and just a little bit further to the Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens. Or if you head in the other direction, you'll be under the Harbour Bridge. 'The Rocks Markets' which are held on weekends are basically just metres from the front door of this hotel. So, the location is perfect. The hotel is a design I love, with all the rooms around the outside and a big open area/meeting place/reception area in the middle on the ground floor. But the whole interior of the hotel is in need of a spruce up; some brighter, fresher colours, rather than the dull yellow it currently is now would make a huge difference. The rooms are a decent size and clean, but also older. The room we stayed in, on the fifth floor, was fairly quiet given the location of the hotel, and the rooms have wonderful blockout curtains which make the room very dark (if you like that) to enable a sleep-in, especially since you have a selection of 'firm' or 'soft' pillows to choose from. There is a lovely pool and small spa on the rooftop which were fun to use, (but could also do with a refresh/update) and even if you don't swim, the view of the city from the rooftop area is gorgeous, especially when there isn't a cruise ship in the way.

Unfortunately one of the worst experiences I have had in regards to accommodation. -Booking: initially booked a single night through booking.com, the website offered a lower rate than directly through the hotel website. Called the location directly to extend the booking an additional night, very difficult process when it didn't need to be. Required separate booking at 25% higher rate and would not take payment over the phone. -Room: for whatever reason, the room is terribly dated, dirty, and in disrepair. Trim along the roof is cracked and broken, curtains covered in dust, a shoddy job on every wall in the bathroom in an attempt to fix the plaster and sheetrock. The biggest issue is the mould on the shower curtain and other areas in the bathroom tile seals. -Building: Place is just generally dusty dirty, and looks a bit like a "remodeled" rental property owner. the upcycled/reused/second hand mirrors, sinks, and taps in the bathrooms don't seem original but also not from a remodel. Rather just replaced as they failed over the past decades. The biggest ick was the elevator with soiled carpets and the glob of dried hand sanitiser from the broken dispenser on the floor. The rooftop and the pool have an absolutely insane view and is a must visit. -Location: The location is ideal for the typical sydney tourist visitor experience being near several attractions/restaurants. Unfortunately this was offset by the neighboring building having construction and jackhammer work going off at 7am. The walls of the building are so thin you can hear sidewalk conversation of all the passers by at all hours of the evening. Perhaps this is less noticeable above the 4th floor but just bring ear plugs if you want to sleep. The worst part was hearing the trucks, radio traffic, and the screeching of metal gates being placed at 4am on a Sunday outside the hotel to set up for some sort of function. I understand they can't do anything about the general public's activities, but perhaps insulating walls, or providing alternate rooms should be an option.

Absolutely unable to sleep, for both nights, disheartened with the lack of cleanliness, and annoyed at the lacking level of...

This hotel is located right in middle of a very happening neighborhood called The Rocks and you are a Very short walk to the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Bridge, the Cruise Port Terminal, Ferries to anywhere, the Art Museum, a 24 hour convenience store, great restaurants, bands and dancing at night 7 days a week, the Big Bus hop on and off stops, and high end and medium end shopping. In fact some of the rooms at this hotel have a view of the Opera House.||I can't think of a better location to stay in for your first or second visit to Sydney than this hotel.||This hotel was booked by my tour for a 5 night stay in April 2025.||Now having said all this: This Hotel needs some major renovation or maybe demolition? I actually don't think they can knock it down because it's an "historic" property.||There was a mold experiment going on in my room and other rooms people on the tour told me. The carpet is old and torn. The bathtub is so narrow that I could not stand without bending my toes. The grout is dirty, cracked moldy. Showers take 2x as long because the temperature controlled by 2 knobs from the early 19th century cannot keep the temperature at one setting--you have to keep on adjusting it. The towels are hit or miss--you feel like hitting someone with them the room needs so much work. The included breakfast is just okay, but the fresh fruit is good, not great. The lobby is drab and uninspiring with a small bar area with happy hour specials.||From a bed comfort and room cleanliness standpoint the king bed was very comfortable and sheets and towels clean.||My room looked out onto a construction site on the back end and on the last day of my stay (the other days were weekends and holidays), you could not sleep past 6 am when the heavy machinery starts pounding away. Make sure not to get a room facing the construction.||The view from the small pool on the roof is excellent and so is the view of the Opera House.||The folks that work here run the gamete from helpful to "your bothering me."|I regularly asked for extra towels and bar soap at the front desk and got it without waiting for delivery.||Basically if you can just stay out of your room here, you...
