What a charming heritage building! Yes it may be old, but it’s beautiful, has been renovated and has a lift now inside. Breakfast included aswell. Some rooms have their own bathroom or you can use the share bathroom depending on what room you chose, everything was so clean and kept well. Other bonuses are that it’s in the heart of the rocks with a balcony view from the sitting/reading room with a roof terrace!! Old fashioned with unique, eclectic character, you’re not cooped up here at all and your bedroom windows open - freedom ;) unlike other modern hotels.. mini bar, tea, coffee, iron/board, bath robes, hangers, tv, wifi, alarm clock radio with USB charge port and most importantly PARKING- yes they even have an awesome deal with the Wilson carpark 155 George St right next door, how cool is that and for only $25 per 24hrs! Cheapest and best deal - I did the research, it gets VERY expensive Parking your car in Sydney. As with a lot of old hotels they don’t always have their own personal parking so this deal along with staying here at the Russell is perfect 👌 there’s so much history you need to research it. I’m already hooked and obsessed that I’m looking at going back in a few weeks. I’m saving the best for last- Room 8, this is the room I stayed in on purpose, yes I did my research, and it’s haunted! I was seeking the paranormal and that’s exactly what I got. Another thing you’ll need to research. One must realise that these buildings especially in the rocks area were built way back “in the beginning” the 1800’s, there’s bound to be ALOT of history with them, that’s why I did the ghost tour and the rocks walkabout tour- highly recommend and there’s other tours to do too, that’s why I’ll be back 😀 soon!! So to sum it all up, great hotel, great price, great parking, yummy breakfast (included) and friendly welcoming staff in a fantastic location. Thank...
Read moreBeautiful, cute, fabulous hotel! We were a little worried to stay in an older/historical hotel, but oh my! It was the best choice we could have made! Not only is The Russell cheaper than any surrounding hotel, it was a very nice, clean and had some character that a chain hotel wouldn't have. Location was great! Just a few blocks away from The Harbour Bridge and just around the corner to the Opera House. 2-minute walk to The Circular Quay Train Station. And at The Harbour, there are some great ice cream/gelato places.
Staff is so nice and helpful... we got off our cruise ship at 10am and "checked-in", it was early so we couldn't go to our room... the staff tagged our bags and assured us they would take them to our room. So, we went ventured out with our Aussie friend for the day. When we got back, our bags were in our room and the room was fabulous! Loved it! Very good bed and pillows! Everything nice!
Continental breakfast was great! They had had nut breads, regular bread and fruits... along with bran cereal, frosted flakes and others. Definitely would stay here again when we come back to Sydney!
No complaints, everything was fantastic! Loved, loved, love The Russell Hotel. The bathrooms are in the hallway, but they are very nice and kept up nicely! Soap and shampoo is provided!...
Read moreI don't like to leave a negative review but in this instance I can't in good conscious recommend this hotel to anyone. Tiny, cramped, stuffy, claustrophobic, dilapidated and FILTHY are just a few words used by my colleagues during our stay. What we thought were cracks in the toilet were actually long black hairs stuck to the cistern. The showers were all moldy and don't expect to fit in them if you're over 3ft tall. There was dust everywhere. The fan switch in my room (no aircon btw) was so greasy you needed a stick or glove to avoid contracting something and the supplied heater was so rusty you'd get tetanus just by looking at it for too long. Don't open the drawers or you'll discover Nanna's mangy old hot water bottle still covered in dust and hair. The furniture had all been very crudely repaired and seen much better days too including some 'interesting' stains on the upholstery - assuming you're lucky enough to actually get a chair that is. It was so bad we felt the need to take photos which I have uploaded for your viewing pleasure. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere if you value even a little cleanliness because you won't find it at...
