I visited the ICC Theatre last night to attend Melanie Martinez’s ‘Portal’ tour, and I have never experienced such a disorganised GA line before.

The GA experience is something myself and others look forward to, and waiting in line is something that can be fun, but yesterday I felt so uncomfortable and frustrated that it took away from the concert experience.

There was NO direction for fans who had VIP, GA, or seating tickets, and lots of people were misplaced in the incorrect lines due to the incompetence of both staff and the ICC Theatre itself.

There was no organisation or structure to the order of the GA “line” and your security did nothing to deter other fans from pushing, shoving, and kicking people waiting in the line. We were all so incredibly squashed and cramped outside in the line in the sun, and it was almost impossible to obtain any water.

Your security were so incredibly rude when fans were asking for help, they would just grunt or flat out ignore them.

Not to mention the pathetic attempt that your security tried to pass off as “bag checking”. Anyone could have bought dangerous weapons inside the venue and neither your staff or the patrons would have been none the wiser. Myself and the person I attended the show with last night felt so unsafe with the negligence provided by your staff.

The time organisation was just as disgraceful, your staff had no IDEA what they were doing. They had no clue how to conduct any structure into checking tickets at all, it was so embarrassing to watch.

If you wanted to buy merchandise you lost your spot in line, which didn’t seem very fair at all. Not that your staff did anything to stop people from pushing in. 🤷‍♀️ Some of the security encouraged fans to push into the front when people had been waiting since 4am. Pathetic.

There is definitely room for improvement amongst your team. This whole experience has deterred me from wanting to visit any future artist who chooses the ICC Super Aware Theatre.

Melanie’s performance was...

ICC spoiled my once in a lifetime experience. We have been to A.R.Rahman concert at the ICC theatre and ICC totally spoiled the live show experience for us. This is no way ICC theatre can be called a world class venue with so many flaws. I have been reading other reviews here and lot of other people are expressing the same problems, so ICC are already aware of this from a long time ago and nothing has changed or will change. I just want to express my anguish. Stage View – We were sitting in one of the top rows at very high elevation. This location is claustrophobic with very less air circulation. We could not see anything from up there. There were two tiny screens on either side of the stage which are of very poor resolution and low brightness, practically making them useless. Seating and space – My seat was almost broken as the base of the seat would not open completely. The hand rest only partly comes down. The leg room was terrible. It was very uncomfortable, and I had to manage the same way. Aircon – 30mins into the performance, I was literally sweating and people all around me were feeling the same. I complained to one of the ICC staff over there and they said they can’t do anything. Sound – Sound systems are key for a musical performance. The sound system here at ICC theatre was absolute garbage and one of key factors to spoil our experience. Food – Halfway through the concert, I had to take a break because of the terrible experiencing so far. So I stumbled my way out through the cramped isle to get some food. I was on level2 and the only food counter open was on ground floor with 30ppl already waiting in the queue. I denied spending 30min of the 3hr concert time in the queue and complained to an ICC staff and they again said ‘that is how it is’. I went...

I think this is the worst venue in Sydney. I've been here twice in 3 months. Went to see Chris Rock and Brian Cox. The Chris Rock show started 45 minutes after the scheduled time and the Brian Cox event started 20 minutes after the scheduled time.

For the Chris Rock event, the lines to get out of the venue was so long. It was about 15 minutes to get out. The lines to get in for the Chris Rock event was terrible, first of all there was no one telling you where to line up so we walked all the way to the front of the venue only to see the line was so long and we had already walked past it to have to walk all the way back to the back of the line.

After waiting in line, we were told you had a choice to line up again on the other side or to stay in the current line. We decided to walk to the other side which we had to wait again and it was a long line and a long wait.

I personally think they should have staff standing at the end of the line telling people to line up there and then so people who haven't been to the venue before don't get confused.

For Brian Cox, the sound was very low in the intro and 10 minutes in to the show, he wasn't up on the screen. We were sitting in the middle section too so I would assume that if we struggled to hear the intro sitting in the middle that the top would have had it worse.

When you do eventually get in, the seats are small, uncomfortable if the venue is full and there is no leg room. I miss the entertainment centre. I've been to that venue over 10 times and it was so much better than this place.

Would be a good idea to have more staff inside and outside the venues so things run smoothly, more quicker and more efficient. I personally would rather go to another venue over this one. Other venues have been running shows late too, only by 5...

"A Theatrical eSports Saga with a Dash of Reality" As a guest of the Intel Masters during the recent SXSW, I found myself amidst a theatrical saga at the Super Aware Theatre. The event was nothing short of an eSports spectacle, with the world's crème de la crème of Counter-Strike teams battling it out for glory and a hefty prize pool of $250,000 USD. The VIP experience was a royal affair, orchestrated to the T by a crew that seemed to have mastered the art of hospitality. The ambiance was electric, with an iconic crowd that lived up to its reputation of being one of the best in eSports. However, every saga has its dose of reality, and the reality check here were the toilets post-event. It seemed like tens of thousands of teenagers to twenty something boys had attended a beans and beer convention right before gracing the venue. The facilities were great but bore the brunt of the youthful onslaught, making a visit a venture for only the brave-hearted. In spite of the lavatorial letdown, the event was a resounding success, well deserving of a 6 out of 5 stars rating. Yet, owing to the loo fiasco, I had to dock a star, begrudgingly settling for a 5 out of 5. The Super Aware Theatre surely lived up to its name, making everyone super aware of the aftermath of a horde of excited gamers on a toilet system. Has anyone seen Mario? We need a plumber 🪠.

The Good: I’ve seen a few concerts at ICC Sydney — most recently James Blunt and Train — and while the venue is modern and spacious, it’s not without its drawbacks. The staff inside are generally pleasant, and the venue is centrally located in Darling Harbour, making it easy to get to and from. Room for Improvement: Unfortunately, it’s not the ideal venue for music concerts. While it’s certainly big enough, the layout feels a little too expansive, with a lot of wasted space that lacks atmosphere. The seating aisles are extremely narrow, which makes it awkward (and discouraging) to stand up and dance — a big letdown for a live music experience. Coming from someone who grew up attending shows at the old Entertainment Centre, it’s hard to understand why it was ever replaced. Drinks are also highly overpriced for a limited selection, so you're better off eating and drinking elsewhere beforehand. Entry staff can come off a little overly security-focused, which can dampen the excitement as you walk in. Would I Return? Only if a must-see act is playing. It’s not my first choice for a concert venue. The Verdict: A functional but lacklustre space for live music. Great location, but lacking the soul and comfort of venues past. Come prepared — and manage your expectations.
