Restaurant Review: Edition Roaster - A Culinary Delight
Located in the heart of the city, Edition Roaster is a hidden gem that promises a unique and memorable dining experience. With a menu inspired by Japanese cuisine, this restaurant offers a delightful selection of dishes, including King Prawn Udon, Miso Salmon Ochasuke, Japanese Souffle Pancake, and Banana Bread. Accompanied by a cup of expertly brewed Cappuccino or fragrant Vanilla Tea, the culinary journey at Edition Roaster is truly a treat for the senses.
First and foremost, the King Prawn Udon steals the show with its harmonious blend of flavors and textures. The plump and juicy prawns are perfectly cooked and rest atop a bed of silky udon noodles. The broth, rich and aromatic, strikes a delicate balance between umami and warmth. Each spoonful of this impeccably crafted dish transports you to the bustling streets of Japan.
Next on the menu is the Miso Salmon Ochasuke, a dish that showcases the restaurant's commitment to culinary excellence. The succulent salmon fillet is glazed with a luscious miso sauce, imparting a delightful sweetness to the delicate fish. Served over a bed of steamed rice and drizzled with a fragrant green tea broth, this dish is a harmonious symphony of flavors that is both comforting and indulgent.
For those with a sweet tooth, the Japanese Souffle Pancake is an absolute must-try. These fluffy clouds of goodness melt in your mouth, leaving behind a subtle sweetness that is truly addictive. The pancakes are elegantly presented, topped with a dollop of whipped cream and garnished with fresh berries. The combination of lightness, sweetness, and visual appeal makes this dessert a standout addition to the menu.
If you're in the mood for a classic treat, the Banana Bread at Edition Roaster is an absolute winner. Served warm, the bread boasts a moist and tender crumb, with a delightful banana flavor that shines through. The generous portion size allows for sharing, making it a perfect choice for a cozy afternoon tea or a satisfying post-meal indulgence.
To complement these delectable dishes, Edition Roaster offers a range of beverages that are equally impressive. The Cappuccino, expertly crafted with a velvety foam and a rich espresso base, provides a perfect balance of bitterness and creaminess. Alternatively, the Vanilla Tea offers a comforting and aromatic experience, with the subtle sweetness of vanilla gently infusing every sip.
In addition to the outstanding food and beverages, the service at Edition Roaster is impeccable. The staff members are attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about their craft. They provide detailed explanations of each dish and are more than happy to offer recommendations based on individual preferences.
In conclusion, Edition Roaster is a culinary haven that captivates diners with its Japanese-inspired menu and exceptional flavors. From the mouthwatering King Prawn Udon and the delightful Miso Salmon Ochasuke to the heavenly Japanese Souffle Pancake and comforting Banana Bread, each dish is a testament to the chef's creativity and expertise. Accompanied by a perfectly brewed Cappuccino or fragrant Vanilla Tea, the dining experience at Edition Roaster is nothing short of extraordinary. Whether you're looking for a memorable brunch spot or an intimate dinner venue, Edition Roaster is undoubtedly a destination...
Read moreI won’t complain about the food here. I had the most amazing matcha from this cafe about 2 months ago, and I was very excited to introduce this cafe. However, both of us are very disappointed about our experience throughout today’s visit and won’t be returning despite the great desserts.
Not to eavesdrop in the first place since I’m not usually that much of a nosy person, but we cannot help but notice the incidence that happened right beside us. The customers who were seated next to us had a misunderstanding in regards of the sizing of the beverage that was provided. I did not pay attention to the initial situation because first, it was irrelevant to us, and second, I understand that kind of mistakes happen a lot, especially in a busy cafe like this. (Also the server was “new”, so mistakes can happen I understand that)
The manager said that the customer received the correct size and asked the customer to show them the picture as a proof for their previous visits. However the customer couldn’t find the pictures and that’s when the manager started to “overreact”, imo. The manager demanded to give a refund and leave right now, for “false accusations and being rude towards” her. I didn’t hear any insults, nor unnecessary rude comments towards the cafe staffs. Clearly the customer wanted an apology for the confusion, and a proper explanation of what happened without picking an unnecessary fight. (And the customer’s request to receive a takeaway cup for her bevy was ignored) I do not know if the customer’s claim of the beverage size is true or not but as a former FOH myself, I thought this was a problem that could be quickly and smoothly resolved with a nicely worded clarification about the situation.
Even if the customer made a mistake and make a false claim, managing the situation emotionally is unnecessary. The customers explained her position in a polite and calm manner, but the so-called “manager” is the one that escalated the situation very unprofessionally. Threatening the customers by saying that she will call the police if they say one more word to her when they didn’t threaten her in the first place, like… seriously? The male FOH (kudos to him) listened to the customers in a calm and collected manner with respectful words- so why the fuss in the first place? It wasn’t that big of a matter that needed to be handled in that kind of an aggressive manner in the first place. Imagine being called a “Karen” and told to “Never return again” just because you were confused about the sizing of the beverages. It was an incredibly uncomfortable experience to witness that happen 5 inches besides me, thus the 1 star review.
Also, our table got the bill when we didn’t even requested in the first place. I acknowledge that the cafe has a 1 hour policy when it is busy, however it felt very unnecessary and pushy to get the bill without any prior notice beforehand. We also haven’t exceeded the time limit at the time when we received the bill. If passive aggressiveness is the main vibe that you guys are aiming for, then you’ve nailed it.
Quoting the manager, I shall also“never come back”...
Read moreThis is by far my most favorite Cafe that I've come across during my stay in Sydney! It checks all the boxes. From the pastries, the coffee, the service, and the ambiance.
The only regret that I had, when I visited Edition, was that I didn't get to try their savoury dishes and pastries. But its just all the more reason to comw back to Sydney! Anyway, the coffee itself and the matcha offerings they have are all superb. I recommend getting the Shizuoka Hojicha Latte. Maaan I had to go back and get that drink again on my last day in Sydney. Not overly sweet and has the toasted flavor to it. As for their pastries, we had the Banana Bread Yuzu Custard. the Yuzu Basque Cheesecake, and the Tiramisu. Everything was sooooo good! The yuzu banana bread, especially when eaten warm, was a perfect balance of sweet and tangy. The Tiramisu was really good with that shard like crunchy atuff they added at the top. Which, first, wasn't really a fan of but the more i got into it the more i liked it. And the Yuzu Cheesecake, admittedly I didn't think much of it since ive had flavored basque cheesecakes before that was basically a cheesecake with jam/marmalade on top which tends to get insanely sweet. But this one caught me by surprise. Its so so good especially when paired with an espresso. 👌
The location itself is on the end of Darling Square, which i think is a plus since you're not crowded by the people who're in the square. The servers were really friendly and accommodating even when we order take-away the first time we tried it. Their interior was simple but i liked it. Plus having a semi-open kitchen (which I'm a big fan of) is a major plus for me. The only down side about their interior is that their dining spaces are too low and aren't senior/pwd friendly. I had 4 seniors with me when we dined in and they had a hard time going down and sitting down as well as when they wanted to get back up.
Overall, this is definitely on my list of must try cafes in the CBD. Really looking forward to go back here and have a taste of their savoury dishes too!
