I recently visited Hemani and tried a mix of dishes. The paneer butter masala was quite good with nice flavors, and the garlic naan was excellent soft, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. On the other hand, the gobi manchurian was not up to the mark and could be improved as it didn’t quite have the taste or texture I was expecting. I also had chai, which was tasty and hit the spot, but the takeaway cup was leaking a bit, which made it a little inconvenient to carry. Overall, the taste of the food was good, and I did enjoy most of what I ordered. Parking was not an issue since I found an off-street spot nearby, which was convenient. Service was okay, nothing to complain about, but nothing that really stood out either. Overall, Hemani delivered a decent experience with some highlights (like the naan and chai) but also a few areas that could use improvement. I’d come back again to try more dishes, especially if the gobi manchurian gets better.

We have been several times before and it is a great place to get Indian food and delicious Indian sweets. The menu is large, the pricing is decent for Indian food and there are a lot of sweets too. You can watch Indian dance items on the TV and normal TV as there are 2 TV's playing one on each. Also they have renovated and moved I believe. This time we ordered Vegetarian Thali's and a Paneer dish with Garlic Naan. The Thali is a bit smaller than other Thali's I've eaten but it is delicious. The Garlic Naan and Paneer dish was delicious. Falooda Kulfi was ok tasted a little sour, I'm not sure why though. It was mostly good as the rose water syrup was the sweet part of the dessert.

Rarely do I provide 1 star review, this is purely a *do not eat here PSA*. Food actually tasted decent, but we saw the basket that the naan was presented in and it was just DISGUSTING. There was gunk and grease all over the basket and it was pretty clear they simply do not clean these baskets. They don't even put any paper or tissues to prevent the baskets from touching the naan. This unfortunately calls into question the rest of the hygiene of the kitchen. I hate thrashing on a clearly family run business but this was just shocking. I understand keeping hygienic may be hard but this isn't good enough.

So, I have been a regular customer here for the past few years. What better time to do a review of this restaurant, than the new year?

Food quality has been pretty decent overall, can't say many negative things about the flavour of food. Food presentation is also a positive area at this restaurant.

Although, food quantity and serving size has most certainly decreased. Prices have gone up, meal serving sizes have stayed the same? I understand inflation and possibly even the pandemic may have a role to play here, although, sudden and elevated price increases, do become a possible deterrent for a regular customer from coming back.

The more practical and appropriate way to handle this matter, would be to raise prices incrementally, instead of rounding the price up to the next dollar figure.

This is in conjunction; with the fact that other Indian restaurants within a 5km radius have cheaper prices for the same products, with bigger servings sizes.

At the end of the day, does the consumer really deserve to pay the price for inflation? In an ever changing hospitality industry, let alone a world which is so much more competitive.

Customer service - Meh, pretty decent. Could go a few steps further and put a smile on, and have a casual conversation about the customers day. It is a cornerstone rule, of many industries, especially if you want regular customers to come back.

One thing I would like to bring up, and heavily criticise is the lack of rewards for regular customers. I do take into consideration that this is a small business, but where is the decency to treat regulars with a bit of a reward, once in a while?

For instance, if you order a meal over $50.00, a little box of sweets to say 'thank you', most certainly won't send the business broke. It's a matter of courtesy and appreciation. An act of this nature will go far, as there is so much competition around. Also, giving a customer a voucher for their next meal, with $10-$15.00 off won't hurt the business.

Amenities - they could do with cleaning more often. Sometimes it seems like you're in the streets of Mumbai.

Would I personally recommend them? At the moment; yes. Would I recommend them in the future? Possibly not, as the cons outweigh the pros in this case. Implementing the areas of concern , may change my view of a future...

My husband and I were extremely disappointed at the lack of your understanding and treatment meted out to us.

We advised your restaurant three days in advance that three guests could not attend. We asked for a refund or a credit to have a meal at anytime within limit. It was refused.

On the day of the function a family of 8 guests did not turn up due to extreme family reasons. We requested for takeaway and willing to provide containers so that we could deliver it to this family and was still refused, saying it is not the policy of the restaurant to provide this service. How come at our previous function you conveniently gave us takeaway. When we and other diners have requested for takeaways when we dine you have obliged. Hence where does your policy to give takeaways come into place.

Over the years we have eaten and had three functions at Hemani. This treatment does not allow us to continue visiting your restaurant. Seems like all about profit and not service to your client.

Theresa Kirk...
