Stayed at Mercure for 9 days for my first ever solo trip to Sydney, and I must say it was absolutely a treat. Have to give my huge thanks and commendations to the friendly Ms. Haleemah. I came straight from the airport 1 hr earlier than check in time, she helped me to check in with ease. All the staffs were wonderful and friendly, they made my stay felt like staying at a friend's house. I got the room on the highest floor (14th), and I got to say, the view was stunning and one of my favorite thing from the hotel. I could watch the sunrise and sunsets over the city skyline everyday, I could even watch the busy central station from the convenience of my room. The room itself was nice, free WiFi was very fast and easy to connect. Bed was very comfy. The only thing I would add would be the TV which couldn't connect to netflix (I asked the receptionist and they apologized for it), in which I could just easily connect my device with the TV instead, and also the room cleaning which was apparently not everyday, and sometimes not that meticulously clean. They have parking lot and coin laundry on the basement floor (A$ 4 per wash, and another A$ 4 for drying), you can exchange your money to coins at the reception. Coin laundry was definitely very helpful. The concierge was great, as I could put my luggage there for some last minute shopping before leaving for the airport. The location is another huge point that made me choose this hotel. Bus station is literally situated right in front of the hotel. Central Station is situated 600 m from the hotel, around 8 minutes walking. You can even walk to the Haymarket light rail station, which is around 500 m away (5 mins walking). There are so many small cafes and restaurants nearby the hotel, a kfc, Krispy Kreme, a pharmacy, convenience store. Literally everything you need in a trip. All in all, if I ever visit Sydney again in the future, I'll definitely stay at Mercure Sydney, and I'll look forward to their warm welcome then, just as how they had given me throughout my Sydney trip.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed at in Australia. They advertised themselves as a four-star, but the service isn’t! Even comparable to cheap budget hotels! The quilt cover in the room was missing, there were only two layers of bed sheets covering the duvet; one of beds even with only one sheet only, leading to the dirty quilt in the bed with one sheet on the top but no sheet on the bottom. I called the reception desk, the man said the quilt was supposed to be like this, I said that's impossible! Two beds, one of them had 2 duvet sheets but the other one was not, how can?! How could they let guests directly use the dirty quilt? I asked for the housekeeping staff to come over. It took 20 minutes for them to arrive, I called again to hurry them up, the reception said I should wait another 5-25 minutes, I said “I had already waited 20 minutes, aren't you a four-star hotel? Is this the service?” Finally, the housekeeping staff came over quickly, confirmed that the bed was indeed wrong, and one bed sheet was missing. I said how could your reception say the quilt has only one layer of bed sheet so casually? If the reception doesn't know, he can say he doesn't know, but he can't say I'm wrong, that's irresponsible and very unprofessional! The housekeeping staff was great, he quickly helped me make the bed, but the service from the reception was really horrible! Not just this time, other times when I called reception the person who answered the phone was a girl, also irresponsible, I asked why my mobile device couldn't screen mirror on the TV, she said all devices can't, but the TV clearly says it can screen mirroring, and I did successfully connect my phone before! My goodness, how could there be such a terrible and irresponsible hotel! And the hotel hardware is also poor, the elevator is like 30 years old, dirty, shabby and old.

TL;DR - I slept well, so it's all good. Basics first: the room was clean, relatively functional, spacious, had a good shower I could actually stand up in (something that really shouldn't be rare but it is so here we are, points for that), the bed was comfortable and it was quiet despite a full hotel. Then come some caveats: the breakfast was okay - standard grade at this level but nothing more. Perhaps a function of the hotel being fully booked, but there was a good 5-10min wait time to get in to breakfast even if it was included in the rate. The gym had the essentials but had the feeling of being thrown together in half an hour once the equipment arrived. Very spartan. The whole gym/sauna/pool area had weird access through two stories of concrete staircase - there is no elevator. Pool was small, not suitable for laps. There were a whole bunch of little things that did go wrong (like room not ready at the promised time); they were all handled by a friendly staff doing their best so can't really deduct stars from that. All in all a good experience. The location is very convenient and the local area has lots of good dining options.

A superb hotel with excellent service staff! Stayed with Mercure Sydney for 3 nights and amazed by the view and their history! Check in was smooth! Counter staff are all friendly and helpful. Room is clean, spacious and well equipped. Also, it has some smart features which amazed me. Toilet is well maintained and clean! All the shampoo and lotions are good too. Location is good, there are a few restaurants and food stalls around the hotel. Most amazing is the view! It is just the opposite of a historical building! All in all, it is a decent stay and I look forward to my next say with Mercure Sydney!
