Rhodes waterside is a quaint and relatively small shopping centre. However, this isn't a bad thing and ensures that you will find what you're looking for pretty quickly.
On the second floor there is a cleverly located IKEA store. If you enjoy spending time at IKEA, then you will probably have a blast here.
Food and Entertainment
But I digress.. back to Rhodes Waterside. It also contains a food court with several but not many food serving establishments. Approximately 8, the highlight of which being the Guzman Y Gomez store.
GYG comes equipped with a big outdoor seating area that overlooks some lovely flora. This arrangement makes GYG feel more like a classy restaurant than a fast food place.
There are also one or two bar/restaurant hybrids, that serve alcohol and provide a place for people to grab a bite and a drink. Nice enough.
Parking and Miscellaneous
The rest of Rhodes is rather standard and what you would expect from a shopping centre. There are several levels to the car park with many spaces. However, it's not always easy to find a spot and the way the car park is designed might result in people driving around a little bit.
If you take the lift from one of the levels (maybe 3rd?) you can end up on a strange little balcony type level which is very small (no larger than a dining room table) and contains only the lift and nothing else. So in the worst cases one could find themselves standing around on that level waiting for the lift to arrive which during peak hours don't run super efficiently.
Conclusion:
Overall Rhodes Waterside is a great little shopping centre containing all of the essentials (supermarket, pharmacy, doctors, restaurants (both fancy and fast food).
As the name suggests it's right by the water which creates a nice ambience for the shopper. If you live nearby then it's a perfect companion to your weekly shopping needs, and if you don't live locally but are looking for a new place to shop then Rhodes may be the place to go.
Like everything it's not without its downsides which include small store selection, limited food court and perhaps a slightly inadequate car park don't noticably detract from the...
Read moreStart of lockdown version 2. I ordered a table from IKEA for delivery. Only thing was it was going to take nearly four weeks to be delivered. As I’m home schooling my sons I needed the extra desk so that they would be ready to play minecraft and do school work. I couldn’t wait until the end of July. I decided to order and pick up directly from IKEA. I try not to park inside Waterside as getting in and out is like skating on peanut butter. I parked opposite and paid for an hour. Once at the order and pick up I suddenly realised (again!) that I wasn’t the only person in the universe who had opted for the order and pick up. It was packed. We all stood around huffing and puffing in our masks as hundreds of cars spewed forth fumes as they circled the pick up delivery area. I noticed that the car spaces for ‘trailers only’ were taken by cars without trailers. In fact if the three spots two were drivers who simply used that spot for easy access to the centre. There’s no hope for humanity. I waited for about 35 minutes and finally I won my pick up order. Thing was the desk was not bundled together. I had to hold the four legs and the tabletop and walk the 300m or so to my car. That was a pain in the rear (my fault) I just assumed it would have been boxed (Not that I would have done a YouTube unboxed video). So I slowly slugged my way to my car. Poles falling and clanging every three or four steps. The desktop was just a tiny to wide for me to hold it secure under my armpit anchored by my arm. I had to flatten my hand across the top and hold it tight against my side. Stopping every twenty steps to get a grip. You know when a small irritating task has to be done and finally you get to do and that little task suddenly due to laziness, ignorance or plain bad luck turns into a mammoth pain in the backend which requires a bottle of bourbon to recover from. Well this was one of those...
