The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is an institution of the province of Carinthia, which, according to its educational mission, is committed to the public, society, and the arts, to the artists.
The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is the successor of the Carinthian Provincial Gallery, which was reopened in 2003 as a Museum of Modern Art Carinthia after a major reconstruction of the building and whose infrastructure, content and responsibilities it has taken over.
The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia is dedicated to the collection, preservation, exploration, documentation and mediation as well as the general promotion of modern and contemporary contemporary fine art, as it was formerly the Carinthian Provincial Gallery. It is a place of encounter and active engagement with new and newest art trends and tendencies. These will be presented in a varied exhibition program with supplementary scientific publications and conveyed in a wide-ranging accompanying program vividly and discursively, and documented in the art collection through acquisitions.
On around 1000 m² of state-of-the-art adapted exhibition spaceBoth young and already established national and international artistic positions are presented in individual and thematic exhibitions. The Kunstraum Burgkapelle is also available as a location for experimental artistic projects and installations. In the arcade of the first floor in the inner courtyard of the castle, objects and sculptures of the collection can be seen in the form of a permanent display. The castle courtyard also offers around 650 m2 of playable terrain under the open sky.
The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia manages two art collections, the art collection of the province of Carinthia / MMKK and the collection of Artothek / Kärntner Landesgalerie. The latter is the picture rental office of the Kärntner Landesregierung, which is also run by the Museum of Modern Art Carinthia. The collection area of both collections refers to works of the 19th, 20th and 21st century, the focus of the collection is on works by Carinthian artists or with Carinthia reference.
The in-house librarymainly serves scientific research in the home. It mainly includes publications on artists of the own art collection, as well as exhibition catalogs of well-known museum institutions in the German-speaking and in the Alps-Adriatic region. External visitors can access the library on request. The archive documents the artistic life in Carinthia in a collection of newspaper and print collections.

Read moreDie schlechte Bewertung bezieht sich nicht auf die Ausstellung, die wir als total eindrucksvoll empfunden haben, sondern auf das Verhalten der Aufsichtsperson, das bei uns einen sehr bitteren Nachgeschmack hinterlassen hat. Im Museum waren nicht viele Personen, außer uns noch einige weitere Pärchen, die sich - wie wir auch - im Flüsterton über die Ausstellung ausgetauscht haben. Da so wenig los war, war es trotzdem sehr ruhig und der Geräuschpegel war weit davon entfernt, in irgendeiner Weise störend zu wirken. Als wir ca. die Hälfte der Ausstellung angesehen hatten, und ich meiner Lebensgefährtin gerade einige Wörter aus der Infobroschüre zuflüsterte (in dem Raum war niemand außer uns beiden), kam plötzlich die Aufsichtsperson mit strengem Blick auf uns zu, musterte uns von oben bis unten und raunte uns ein empörtes PSCHSCHT!!!!! entgegen - danach folgte er uns förmlich auf Schritt und Tritt. Da er niemanden der anderen Personen, die sich teilweise lauter unterhielten, als wir es getan hatten, behelligte, haben wir das ungute Gefühl bekommen, dass seine Abneigung wohl eher unserer Homosexualität und unserem legeren Kleidungsstil galt, als unserem "Lärmen." Abgesehen davon empfinde ich sein Verhalten generell als sehr unhöflich, sollte unser Flüstern tatsächlich störend gewesen sein, hätte man freundlich um Ruhe...
