Impressive monument depicting a WWII Soviet soldier, flanked by a smaller minutiae the Russian Czar Alexander II. The monuments are surrounded by a pleasant park in which are embedded small engraved stones commemorating the presence of a large number is Soviet Russian military units that were present in Plovdiv in more recent times. The placement of this heavy colonial footprint is on one of the beautiful hills in the middle of the city. My advice to visitors is to absorb it all as the lingering historic remains of a repressive regime and recognize the darker purpose of installing the huge concrete representation of a soldier that seems to be watching the entire city. Accessible only by foot from several directions the long walk up the stone and cobblestone paths is very pleasant. Eventually reaching the top, one can reflect on the physical and artistic aspect of the park and monuments while enjoying a spectacular 360 degree view of the entire city. Perhaps one day Bulgaria will make this more of a monument to its own journey instead of a what it is. For now, enjoy the walk, the park, and the best photo op...

I recently visited the Red Army Monument in Plovdiv, and it was a powerful and moving experience. The monument stands as a significant historical landmark, commemorating the sacrifices and contributions of the Red Army during World War II. Its imposing structure and detailed design capture the gravity and heroism of the era, making it a poignant reminder of the past.

The surrounding area is beautifully maintained, with well-kept gardens and pathways that make for a peaceful and reflective visit. The monument’s location also offers a wonderful view of Plovdiv, adding to the overall experience. It’s not just a piece of history; it’s a place where you can pause and reflect on the courage and resilience of those who fought for freedom.

In addition to its historical significance, the Red Army Monument is an important cultural site in Plovdiv. It provides a valuable opportunity for visitors to learn about and appreciate the region’s rich history. I highly recommend a visit to this monument for anyone interested in history, culture, or simply looking for a meaningful place to...

⭐ Alyosha Monument – Impressive Views & Powerful Symbol

The Alyosha Monument is not just a historical landmark but also one of the best viewpoints in Plovdiv. Perched on a hill above the city, the walk up is peaceful and scenic, surrounded by nature and panoramic views.

The soldier statue is striking and emotionally powerful, commemorating those who fought in WWII. Whether or not you're into history, the 360° view over Plovdiv is absolutely worth the climb.

The site is clean, quiet, and a great spot for reflection or photography, especially at sunset.

Overall: A meaningful and scenic spot that combines history, nature, and stunning views. A must-visit while in...

Imposing statue on one of Plovdiv's hills celebrating Russian soldiers who liberated Bulgaria. Go soon as there are rumours that it will be taken down. Views of the City are excellent Not to be missed A few attached + 300⁰ panorama. It's quite a lot of tiring steps if you take the route google maps gets you too but if you instead of the left go to the right of the college building (National High School Nikola Petkov Street) there is a much more gentle route which curves around the hill. Some steps still but with resting points Facilities at the top were closed (February 2025). No entry charge.
