I challenge you to find a better hostel host than Velin. Takes the time to help you find your bearings with a map of town and points out a few of the real hot pockets to go and check out for yourself. Honestly for what you pay and next to anything else in Plovdiv, this is a great value stay and a hostel manager who definately goes out of the way to make sure your stay is pleasant. The only reasons there aren't 5 stars across the board is the rooms linens felt like they have had a long life cycle. Blankets and sheets weren't above average as far as hostels go. Location.. while location I would normally say is great and quite central. This would depend on what you want to get up to. Most things very easily accessible by a short walk. Where I have been harsh at the moment for the purpose of keeping the review current (Aug 2023) is that if you arrive via train and happy to continue for a short walk to the address between you and ginger house there is currently significant roadworks if in the heat of the day or have decent amount of luggage or travelling in a group it is worth a cab. It is easy to think you can walk right past the edge of the roadworks and then be forced to backtrack and walk right the way back around. Adding 10 minutes if you have luggage/a group/etc. Not all that enjoyable and it's time out of your day you can spend elsewhere. Other than that though. The accomodation is close enough to call (central +1.5 blocks) maybe. An overall enjoyable stay and Velin makes...
Read moreI have spent 2 nights in Ginger house and I had a nice experience. The room was nice and clean, we were 3 persons in one bedroom. The shower and toilet a communal and the cleanliness mirror the tidiness of the users, so you can get a very good first impression on the people which you may eventually stumble upon and inhabiting the place at the moment. The hostel was full of travellers and we could share our stories and expereince from the road - do not forget the connection between the cleanliness of the place and the integrity of the people who share it at the moment. For breakfast, the host prepared a simple but nice meal, eggs, toasts, porridge, seasonal fruits, by the way, there is a kitchen which you can use at your disposal if you are picky on what you take for food. Overall I am very satisfied with my stay at Ginger House and if I ever stumble upon going to Plovdiv I will definitely book...
Read moreNice hostel on the smaller side, so you get to know people which is nice. Location is great for getting from the train/bus station and getting to the old town. We had a private room with a comfy bed and a window with a screen, so we were able to leave it open and not let any bugs in, which was greatly appreciated! Check in was easy and all our questions were answered. Kitchen is a bit small, but serviceable. And there is free breakfast! Toast, eggs, meat, cheese, tomato and cucumber, fruit, jam, cereal. Lots of options! Only one shower and two toilets, but we were never...
