Battambang Central Market (Psar Nath) is a vivid, authentic snapshot of everyday Khmer life, housed in a striking 1930s Art Deco building—an architectural landmark in the city . As you arrive, the bustle of motorbikes, street vendors, and colorful umbrellas sets a lively tone.

Inside, the market splits into clear sections: the wet zone overflows with fresh fish, meat, vegetables, and exotic fruits, while the dry wing offers clothing, household goods, textiles, and small electronics. You’ll also find stalls selling souvenirs, handicrafts, and fresh spices . The experience is immersive—chatting with friendly vendors, clutching crisp local produce, and learning the rhythm of haggling feels rewarding, if sometimes hot and a little chaotic .

Food is a highlight. Small eateries and stalls whip up local favorites like kuy teav (noodle soup) and num banhchok early in the day. With prices accessible and flavors authentic, sampling Khmer snacks here is a delicious cultural immersion . For adventurous eaters, insect snacks are also available—and surprisingly tasty, per some visitors .

A top tip: go in the early morning to catch the full spectrum—fresh goods, high energy, and cooler temps. Bring cash, small bills, and wear light clothing. Bargaining is polite and expected, so arm yourself with a friendly smile .

Overall, Psar Nath offers more than shopping—it’s a cultural hub where architecture, food, commerce, and community converge. Whether you’re browsing fresh produce, picking up souvenirs, or enjoying local eats, the market is a memorable and essential stop in Battambang.

Rating: 4/5 – vibrant, authentic, and rich in atmosphere; slightly crowded and warm, but...

Battambang Central Market, or Psar Nath, is a vibrant gem in the heart of the city. I stay nearby and love strolling here to browse or grab breakfast. The market buzzes with life, offering everything from clothing, accessories, and jewelry to fresh produce and a lively wet market. Surrounding the iconic Art Deco building, built in the 1930s, are numerous shops and food stalls dishing out local delights like num banh chok and fish amok. The atmosphere is electric, especially in the evening when more vendors set up, providing endless options. It’s busy all day, with locals and tourists mingling amid the colorful stalls. The only downside is the dust kicked up by heavy traffic nearby, but it doesn’t overshadow the charm. Friendly vendors make haggling fun, and the authentic Khmer vibe is unbeatable. It’s a must-visit to soak in Battambang’s culture and support local businesses. Whether you’re hunting for souvenirs or savoring street food, this market delivers a sensory feast that captures the essence of Cambodia. Bring cash, come early for the freshest finds, and dive into this...

Battambang Central Market, also known as Phsar Nath (ផ្សារណាត់), is a major hub of local life in Battambang. More than just a place to shop, it's a vibrant and authentic cultural experience that reflects the city's history and daily rhythms.

French Colonial Influence: The market building is a significant architectural landmark, built in the 1930s under French colonial administration. Its Art Deco style is similar to the famous Central Market in Phnom Penh, as it was designed by the same French architects.

Food Stalls: The market is a fantastic place to sample local Cambodian cuisine. You'll find numerous food stalls serving affordable and authentic dishes like noodles, sticky rice cakes, and other...

As the name might suggest, this is the most centrally located and largest market in Battambang. In my opinion, it is one of the better markets in Cambodia. It has a wide selection of typical market items, like fresh produce and meats, jewelry, clothes, religious items and beauty supplies. It avoids the extremes of either excessive touristy artificiality (like PP's Central Market with its high prices and Chinese-made "Cambodian" souvenirs) or dirtiness (like some of the other BTB markets). Pro Tip BTB Central is especially a great place to have breakfast or lunch at the food court in the centre of the market. But be forewarned that the market closes early, usually 6:00PM or so
