An absolutely stunning view of the mountains. This bridge was built by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1891 on a railroad spur line to serve a coal mine. The old rail spur is now the Bow River Loop Trail. The loop around the bow river is a great trail to enjoy the views and take in some fresh air. It’s a beautiful backdrop for pictures. I stumbled upon the Canmore Engine Bridge during a morning walk and was completely taken by surprise. This historic bridge, originally built for trains servicing the coal mining industry, now stands as a quiet and picturesque pedestrian pathway. The surrounding area is breathtaking — you're right alongside the Bow River, with crystal-clear water reflecting the majestic Three Sisters and other surrounding peaks.
The walk to the bridge is very easy, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're a local or just visiting, it’s the kind of place where you’ll want to slow down and take in the beauty. I saw cyclists, joggers, dog walkers, and families all enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
The bridge itself is a fantastic photo spot, especially at sunrise or sunset. You get a stunning contrast between the rusted steel of the old railway structure and the natural alpine beauty around it. There are also a few benches nearby where you can sit and just enjoy the sounds of the river and birds.
