Authentic Japanese ramen in Canmore
For Canmore this place was very reasonably priced. For 2 giant ramen and an appetizer it was 50$ after an 18% tip and we were stuffed and happy.
This place is always packed so get takeout or be ready to put your name on the waiting list and wait for a call. There's no point in getting upset you can't get into this place when it's obviously got a cult following and for good reason.
Here's all the things they do right other places just don't do: -Marinated eggs! So tasty! And 100% better than just a plain boiled egg. -Soft fall apart tender pork... so yummy! And smoky and its mouthwatering tender. It almost dissolves in your mouth. -Bamboo shoots. Perfectly marinated, salty and soft. -Perfectly chewy bouncy noodles. If you like them softer wait a few minutes. The broth is perfectly piping hot.
I've seen a couple reviews complain about the price and the spiciness. This is Canmore and $14-17 is not expensive for a bowl of ramen, actually thats pretty standard ANYWHERE especially when you leave full and happy. If you're a really big eater get an extra portion of noodles for $3.95. But the average person should leave feeling absolutely stuffed.
And as for spiciness... this isn't panda express hot!! If you can't handle authentic spicy blame it on yourself for having weak spice tolerance and next time don't order spicy. Don't ruin it for the rest of us! Some of us like to sweat when we order a spicy dish. It's a God send when you find a place where spicy means spicy.
Having been to Japan this may be the only place in Alberta that comes close to Japan/Vancouver level good. This is going to be a go to place everytime I come to Canmore going forward, even if I have to wait for hours to get in.
Also kudos to the patient staff that had to deal with all the people upset they couldn't just walk in and get a seat even though it was 11:30 on a Monday. Like I said this place has a cult following and for good reason you will probably need to put your name on the wait list or...
Read moreSo this is the first time I've had this ramen but it was really good! Ordered 8 or more ramen from Ramen Arashi and they said it would take 30 mins, which was really fast. Everything is packed nicely (takeout because of Covid) seperating soup and noodles with toppings in these nice and sturdy take out bowls. Gave us a box and everything so it was very easy to hold onto while we drove home.
Now the next portion is on my own ramen because "no sharing is caring" during these times. I had ordered the Devil's Arashi, because I like spicy food. What was even more tempting was they had five levels of spice and wanting to test myself I decided to just go ahead and order the level 5 Devil's Arashi. Here's the thing, it is very important to balance out flavours and spices, almost like a cost-benefit analysis. I've had places give me the spiciest thing on the menu and I mean, yes it was spicy but the food tasted off and it makes it seem not worth the challenge.
That being said, I loved the Devil's Arashi! Yes, I sweated like a waterfall and paid fairly dearly later that night, but man oh man did they make the soup incredible. The miso base was rich and creamy, which plays well with the chili oil and spices and really just makes you salivate and enjoy every mouthful. The way the Devil's Arashi is made almost reminds me of Mapo Tofu, which makes this ramen even more 'accessible' as you can still take eat it properly even if your eyes are watering like crazy. The noodles are firm, which I didn't mind but if needed you can always boil the ramen at home a bit more to soak in flavour and softness.
All in all, I really enjoyed the Devil's Arashi and recommend this place! In terms of how spicy was level 5? I would say it's a gradual rise up and reaches just under the spiciness of the Korean fire...
Read moreDelicious! I can't wait to order from them again. We ordered 9 ramens for takeout including Shoyu, Regular tan tan, Black tan tan, tonkatsu and Devil's ramen. We ordered over the phone and we were given a pick up time of 30mins wait. Pretty decent for lunch time on a Sat of the long weekend. They are right off the main street and they get alot of walk up customers so prep for a bit more of a wait before you get to the counter. Lots of public parking with a 5 min walk plus a few spots right out front just for customers of the mall. It's worth every minute of the wait! Everyone really enjoyed their noodles. I personally had a level 5 Devils ramen. It was fabulously flavourful, noodles were cooked perfectly adante and just enough spice for me to consider it quite spicy but not painful or uncomfortable at all. I could feel the heat but no tears or runny nose action. Lol. I drank some soup as I ate my ramen but didn't drink the bowl dry. I was satisfied and feeling good, most importantly I didn't experience the common bathroom trip that is often experienced within 24 hrs of eating really spicy food. My nephew on the other hand, loved his ramen but also drank all his soup. He felt accomplished at that time but boy, he paid later. Of course I told him "I told you so..." know your limits! :D
Note: A couple other people did try our Lv5 spice soup and found it way too hot for them. And the 2 that did not want any spiciness ordered mild and found it (perfectly) not spicy for them but still flavourful. We're quite happy we tried them out.
Sorry no photos for this one! The food smelled and tasted so good I forgot to stop and take photos before it was too late. I'll add them next...
