I have been a loyal Decathlon customer for over a decade, but my recent experience at the Southcenter Mall location was deeply disappointing and unacceptable. I went in to buy a bike and a child seat to ride safely with my 19-month-old daughter, clearly explaining my needs and her weight (10 kg) to the staff. Based on their recommendation, I purchased the Rockrider Touring Mountain Bike Explore 500 along with the Hamax Chill child seat, which supposedly supports up to 22 kg. Immediately after purchase, I discovered the seat was rubbing against the rear tire when my daughter was in it, clearly indicating a safety issue. The in-store technician made a quick adjustment and assured me it would be fine, but the issue persisted throughout the ride home. When I returned to the store, they said the only fix was to buy a Seat Post Pannier Rack for another $45, despite me having explained the problem and my child’s weight again. When I picked up the bike later, I was shocked to learn that this new setup had a weight limit of only 10 kg—the exact weight of my daughter, a fact I had mentioned repeatedly. After spending a total of $870, I asked to return everything due to safety concerns, only to be told I could either receive store credit or just 60% of my money back. Why should I lose $348 (40% of total spent) or be forced into a store credit for a mistake that was entirely due to Decathlon’s poor advice and lack of accountability? This entire experience felt more like a push to make a sale than a genuine attempt to help a parent make a safe and informed decision. After this experience I think I lost trust in the...
Read moreThis store only carries non brand name, exclusive products. Thought with all the hype, I should check it out. No idea on the quality of the exercise wear and runners etc. Those are a big box cash cow anyway, so maybe they are a good deal ?? who knows? BUT, avoid the hockey and Baseball gear..... its absolutely horrid. It may be priced low, but it makes the stuff at Walmart and Cdn Tire look like top of the line it's so bad. And, it's not even that cheap for as bad as it is. if you wear their skates or protective to actually play hockey, you will be hurt. Even the Rec figure skates are bad..... Not one single Bat has any of the required approvals, be it softball, baseball etc..... they are illegal and will be thrown out.Staff had no idea!!! Ball gloves for $40 to $50 are straight vinyl...... not a stitch of leather ...... why bother?
Bikes appear to be low quality and and thrown together. They even have non brand name components on them, so how do you know what you're getting? some I checked had soft tires and brakes weren't even adjusted . Lastly, their cool factor is employing robots. local small buisness actually employ tax paying , contributing members of society that contribute to the local economy.
I guess it's buyer beware . Lots of sizzle, very...
Read moreI didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. Brand new store, excellent accessibility for ♿ users. Prices were reasonable and in some cases much lower than expected. How is this possible? Don't go looking for other companies' brand names. Think instead of ikea. Decathlon is vertically integrated so they design, manufacturer, distribute, and sell their own brands. They offer several levels of quality and price depending on what you are looking for.
The floor above the retail shop is actually their local warehouse. If you see something you like, use your phone to scan the QR code on the items tag and add it to your list in the web page you are taken to. Specify size or colour as needed. When you are finished shopping, or simply want to look at the real item, press the Pickup button and robots will fetch your item upstairs and send it down to you for examination and purchase if desired.
All in all, a slightly different shopping experience than I am used to but quite acceptable especially if you are shopping on a...
