LIGHT SPOILERS: Let's start with the Pros: The staff was very friendly and animated. We had an awesome experience with Jared, who explained things very well.
The lounge is very nice.
Now that that's out of the way, here are some of the challenges we experienced with our room:
We chose the Chaos Effect room, the hardest room in the Calgary location. The premise was interesting, but the execution of building the game was a little... ehhhh.
Most of the puzzles and clues were either finding dates, solving equations, or - by far the worst of them - on the computer. Oh my goodness the computer.
The computer essentially gatekeeps the puzzle to only the one person. On the hard drive that you find, there are files upon files of mp3 files, text files, PLS files, mp4 files, png files, you name it, which made it near impossible to navigate. We used a lot of hints during this section, but the hints were of next to no use. After about 6 hints, we requested to just give us the answer, because we were so done. Not to mention that we needed the time on the clock, and the clock was set incorrectly, dooming our group to failure.
When we finally got through, we enter another room with another stinking computer. Half of our time was spent as one person searched through files, and the other people in the group looked around the room to find 0 more clues or puzzles.
When we ran out of time, the game master came into our room to us looking through a screenshot on the hard drive and cross searching with the log book info, and searching for clearly marked paths to an application (also on the hard drive), only for him to say he's never seen that before and its not a part of the game.
Keep in mind, I'm not butt-hurt from the difficulty or the fact that we didn't escape. A person in our group did solve the mystery, but with information readily available in the first room. I am a little frustrated because our group was stumped at quite a few spots in the room, because of either poor planning in the set, or the medium of the puzzle, and I'm convinced it wasn't our problem solving abilities. We're a group of seasoned escapers and we did another room earlier today at a different location, which was their second hardest room. We solved that one with 30 minutes left on the clock.
In this room, we spent all of our solving time and didn't even make it halfway through.
All in all, if you are looking for a singleplayer headscratcher with hints (and sometimes answers) that do not progress you further, this room is for you.
If you want to spend a good time with your friends on a challenging room, collectively, we say...
Read more1/5 Stars for Trapped Calgary
My wife and I have been to Trapped Calgary multiple times before, and we’ve always had great experiences—fun rooms, engaging staff, and a welcoming vibe. That’s why we were excited for our 9pm escape room booking. But tonight, they delivered the worst customer service I’ve ever received at an escape room, completely ruining our evening and any goodwill we had for them.
At 7:03pm, I received a voicemail from someone named Keaton, asking if we could come in earlier than our scheduled 9pm booking. I would’ve been open to discussing it, but Keaton’s voicemail was shockingly unprofessional for a business that’s supposed to prioritize customer service. He guilt-tripped me, saying I was putting him in an “unfortunate situation” where he’d have to keep staff there “with no work for a couple hours” and that I “might be doing him a big favor” by adjusting my plans. This was our date night—we planned our entire evening, including dinner, around their advertised 9pm slot, and his condescending tone soured the whole night. If you advertise hours, you should stick to them. It felt like he was blaming us for their scheduling issues, which is unacceptable. To make matters worse, about 10 minutes later, I got another call from someone who didn’t even leave their name, almost like they were afraid to identify themselves, just to “speak about my booking.”
We’ve loved Trapped Calgary in the past, but this experience was so bad that we won’t be back. Keaton’s voicemail and the anonymous follow-up call ruined our night. I’m beyond disappointed that a place we used to rave about has left us with such a bitter taste. Save your money and go somewhere that respects its customers and honors its...
Read moreTrapped is the #1 Escape Room place my friends and I go to in Calgary. I’ve been to many Escape Rooms and these guys, by far, have the best stories, details, puzzles, and offer the most fun compared to other places (especially when the staff get to jumpscare you mid-session while in costume). I am fully immersed every single time and this place ALWAYS delivers for a wonderful time.
Over the last 1.5 years, my friends and I have made it our dedicated pastime to complete every single room Trapped has to offer. Since a handful of us are scattered and gone for school throughout the year, whenever we have a chance to reunite and hangout - semester breaks, Christmas, summer - Trapped is the first activity on our to-do list.
We recently had the pleasure of checking off our very last room, Chaos Effect, that was hosted by one of our favourite employees Ray Ray. She was a lot of fun and her joy was contagious; her bright energy made the experience all the more enjoyable. Prior to the game, her explanations and instructions were remarkably clear, concise, and digestible, and the rules, tips, and hints she gave us were incredibly helpful in solving the puzzles of Chaos Effect. Thanks to her brilliant communication, we actually finished the room with a comfortable amount of time left to spare.
After 1.5 years of this journey of making Trapped a part of our lives and a ritual within our friend group, it was a pleasure to have Ray Ray be the one to host our finale and usher us into the completion all of Trapped’s...
