Last month I visited Athena’s and had a microdermabrasion facial, which was a gift from my husband. The esthetician was friendly and explained the steps as she went, it was wonderful. My sister went the week after me and had the same facial by a different esthetician. It wasn't until she was describing her experience that we realized that I did not receive the same experience as she had, which should have been the same as we had the same facial and paid the same amount. The big difference, however, was that she received a head, neck, and arm massage which is something I did not receive.
Thinking back to my experience, my esthetician asked me before we started if I had this treatment before, to which I said no. In retrospect, this makes me think she may have skipped some steps knowing I hadn't had this facial before. I feel that I got ripped off from that experience. After I spoke to my sister I called Athena’s and asked if there were different microdermabrasion facials and spoke to a young lady who told me that each esthetician does her own thing, which I told her doesn't seem fair. She said she would talk to Scott about it and get back to me. I have yet to hear back from anyone.
My sister also called since no one got back to me and she explained what happened and wanted to let them know about the differences and that it doesn't seem fair. The woman she spoke to said she would look into it and call her back. She did get a call back and they explained that each esthetician is to do the massage after they put the mask on. Which is funny because my esthetician left the room after putting my mask on. This woman that called my sister back said that she will have Scott call me back and I have still yet to hear anything over a week later. Not sure why it’s easy to call my sister back, but not me…
I want to emphasize that I'm not looking for a refund or anything like that, just acknowledgement that they are aware of my poor experience and are looking into there being equal practices for all customers. My poor review is due to that alone. In my opinion, it’s only fair that if I paid for a treatment, I receive the same treatment as someone else.
I'm disappointed in the lack of communication from a business owner who I would imagine would depend on word of mouth. A follow up would have been appreciated but since I never received that I can't in good conscience recommend Athena's to anyone...
Read moreI want to first say that my review is not against the 2 stylists that assisted me— the one star represents my gratitude for both of the stylists who were very hard working & kind young ladies who did their best with the knowledges they had. I went to Athena to get a partial sew in (weft extensions) and trial of bridal hair. During the appointment all went pretty well, but I did notice 2 things that struck me as odd. 1. The sew in was done using beads instead of braiding my hair down & 2. There seemed to be some sort of catty/gossipy type of behaviour going on in the background. However I left the salon feeling satisfied— despite being rushed to get to my bridal shower that afternoon. I paid approximately ~$500 after tax and tip. Upon taking down my styling that evening however I noticed there were a few weft ends sticking out that had not been sewed down & upon further investigation using a mirror I discovered an entire loop of weft just hanging off the back of my head. At first I decided to let it go, because the girls were so kind to me. However 2 weeks later many of the wefts seem to be coming undone and falling out of the beads that were placed, and after closer looks it just appears like the stylist didn’t know how to install a sew in properly. One of the wefts was also placed very close to the front of my face, making it almost impossible to hide under my leave out unless I wear my hair fully down or hairspray it over top of the weft. I also want to state that I’ve had extensions before — I know proper care, how to brush them and how to wash/care for them. To sum up the statements above, this issue is NOT the fault of the stylists or myself. I believe this is the result of BUSINESS OWNERS cheaping out on properly training their staff, while offering services they don’t have the capacity to offer— in an effort to save money while charging customers top dollar to make more money. To the business owner(s) — INVEST IN YOUR STAFF. They are passionate and willing to learn. Pay for their training & then pay them better if they provide services outside of the regular scope of practise. That is how you provide quality...
Read moreI’ve been going to Scott for years now and he really is the best at what he does. A couple weeks back I noticed I was having some severe pains/tearing in my calves and shins running and working out at the gym and I didn’t hesitate for a second before calling him. In one session he had me back in pretty good working condition and in two I feel absolutely great during those 5k runs. But most importantly aside from the massage being phenomenal (albeit painful as hell, but I needed that), he also communicated the issues with my muscles effectively which has allowed me to keep treating them at home through various stretches and tools I could use to help with those stubborn knots. This has become an essential nightly routine to keep my legs and feet happy and healthy and feeling their best. Scott always conducts himself with the utmost professionalism and it’s clearly evident that his knowledge of the body and muscular/skeletal systems are vast.
A few visits back I also had the absolute pleasure of being treated by Jackie for chronic tension in my neck/shoulders/and back. At one point I can distinctly remember with perfect clarity her picking up a knot in my upper back and with a simple pinch immediately feeling all the tension and pain release the entire length of the nerve. It was the most incredible and immediate relief I have ever experienced and I’ve recommended Jackie to others who have shared similar experiences to mine. I can’t say I’ve been treated by any other rmts at Athenas but I believe without a shadow of a doubt if they are anything like Scott and Jackie then rest assured you will always be in good hands, can’t say enough good things...
