UPDATE: The mall is still in need of a licensed restaurant, and wine store. The new, smaller food court is noisy, crowded, doesn't have pizza, and still has duplication in Manchu Wok and the terrible Shanghai 360. It's a disaster, and should have stayed on the second floor, but the stores on the third level complained traffic was down, so management spent millions to move. Other than Walmart, we don't shop at third floor stores, even though the food court moved. It's the stores, not the floor! The food court is not hearing-impaired friendly with the open ceiling, and for modern construction, it's a real shame. There's lots of empty store space in the mall, and certainly room for a licensed restaurant now. The Walmart here isn't really a "supercenter" and has a quarter of the selection of other Walmart stores, so when we go to another location to shop, we do other shopping elsewhere too! It should also have a McDonald's in it, like other Walmart stores do. The excuse is because A&W is there, but there's two Chinese food restaurants, so why not competition for burgers when McDonald's is clearly better? There's now a whopping five opticians in the mall - which seems like desperation to rent stores. Totally unnecessary to have opticians on all three floors of an accessible mall. There are already too many opticians in the mall, and this is just more competition for customers to use if they are unable to travel a few miles for much better prices elsewhere like our family does to save HUNDREDS of dollars for prescription eyewear.
For a mall of this size, it is quite disappointing. Then there's HBC, which looks like a dump from outside the first floor, with its boarded up broken doors. Doors that get stuck open in winter, spring, and summer, heating and cooling a small portion of the parking lot. Yes, it can be felt from outside. Yet due to store struggles and theft, HBC opens late every day and does not maintain mall hours. It used to be that mall management enforced businesses keeping mall hours. Not anymore. Especially a department store, one of the "anchor" stores that doesn't act like an anchor.
Bayshore is where you go when you have to, or if you're close by, but it's just not a destination mall. It used to be, but times have changed and it just isn't anymore. When we've come here for specific things in the past few months, we have left empty-handed.
The mall is also planning to go cashless, which will further render it as a useless destination to shop at. A few stores already refuse legal Canadian currency in cash, which should not be acceptable anywhere, ever. Unless you're coming here for something specific, you're better off shopping elsewhere...
Read moreHey Gaurdaworld,
I was pubically humiliated at Bayahore Shopling Mall. I have a known disability and mental illness. I have a doctors note stating this and that a dog will sooth my anxious feelings. Well, a woman in a uniform approaches me as I was finishing my drink (bought at this establishment) in which was the last task i had at the mall. I loved Bayshore because it was a great place to shop and hang out with my friends. I also loved to take my dog there. She is a kind and loving emotional support animal with a vest that indicates as such. Furthermore, a previous staff who had stopped me with my friend had allowed such an action but only wanted proof. All went well. However this time was different. Due to my anxiety, I have difficulties (as I am sure your average Joe does) with acts of being looked and judged. She approaches me with a scowl and puts her hand near her belt. Her first intimidation tactic. Instantly, my belly fills with metaphorical butterflies. I am getting anxious. I don't like being looked down on or noticed in any way. I was just about to leave and now, great I am being put in a very uncomfortable situation. She says she will kick me out. I say she is an emotional support animal. She says I don't care and I don't want proof. She then shows me a card where it does not say anything about emotional support animals not being allowed in stores. I say this. She says she does not care. I ask why she showed me something as a proof to her claims when it does not in fact support said claims. She tells me to call. I do and they said she is asking for proof. I tell them no, she is not. I told them she is saying that she doesn't want proof, that emotional support animals are not like service animals, and that she will kick me out. I try to pull up my proof while she further threatens me. She blocks the exit. She stares. She yells again. The coworker finally comes after what feels like half an hour and changes what she said on the phone from me needing proof to I have to leave too. I said the person on the phone, which turned out to be this new lady, said all I needed was proof for my emotional support dog to be there today. Do you want to know my troubles? It was the act of intimidation on a person with both mental issues and disabilities. Secondly, she did not present the issue understandingly. Finally, she swore while addressing issues about me which was unprofessional and scarey quite honestly. I would love a reply about this issues as it is very important to me. I really never want this kinda intimidation and lack of respect given to another...
