This is a self-learning-through-reading type of museum. Take the time to read all the posters.

There are 2 floors. The train cars are not wheelchair accessible but there is an elevator to the 2nd floor. The walk-through of the passenger train car and the engine were a walk back in time. The dining car has the menu under the glass table top. The tiny kitchen... oh my! Also, there is a $2 engine simulator.

The 'yard' was closed, but there was ample enough to see inside. We happened to be upstairs at the time the Rocky Mountaineer viewing train went by!

There is a train table for children to play at, but it is my opinion that this is a more adult museum. The gift shop is more child centered with books and conductor hats.

Both sides of our family had train workers so the museum...

Nice community museum. It's hard to compare when I've been to much more impressive railway museums (York, UK) but it was a good way to spend an hour and it really set the context of the railway for Revelstoke. The curation was quite wordy so our 8 and 10 year old disengaged quite quickly, I'd recommend bringing dollar coins for the diesel simulator as that's potentially quite fun for children. The outside area was closed during our visit so I can't comment on that. Slightly disappointed about the inside of the passenger carriage, I was expecting a replica of the decadent interior but it was just a few chairs you might find in a cafe. The main locomotive is impressive in its scale but i learnt more about that by eavesdropping a guided tour than any of the boards. Overall worth a visit on...

What an awesome museum! Our family enjoyed the rich history right in front of our eyes. Murals, photographs, real railroad tools, videos and actual coach's to tour made this a great museum. There was even an engineer on duty to explain the workings of the steam engine! PLUS, a railroad simulator. My family enjoyed several 4 minute rides conducting a train down the tracks. The smiles were huge! There is no doubt that the beautiful rail coaches and wonderfully preserved implements that this museum has on display will bring history back to life for you. This was an affordable and fun stop for my family, not too far off the highway, located on a frontage street in Revelstoke that can easily serve as a nice break in a long road trip, or be added to a vacation...

A must-visit for history and train lovers! The Revelstoke Railway Museum is a fascinating stop that brings the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway to life. It does an excellent job showcasing the monumental effort behind the construction and operation of the CPR through Western Canada’s rugged mountain regions. From vintage locomotives and railcars to detailed exhibits and historical artifacts, there’s so much to explore. One of the highlights is the locomotive simulator, which gives you a hands-on experience of driving a train — just bring a $2 coin to try it out! Whether you're a train enthusiast or just curious about Canada's railway history, this museum is absolutely worth the visit when you're in Revelstoke.

Went on a rainy day in Revelstoke. Great place for little boys (or girls!) Took our time and enjoyed their story telling plaques throughout. On the second level was a miniature train display, manned by “Max”, a train enthusiast. We started asking Max some questions, and he actually brought us behind to the ‘working side’. He patiently explained ANYTHING we asked about, even showing us how to make the miniature trees, and how the ‘sand’ (rocks) were done. The display was started in 2001 (before Max was even born!) and they were still adding to it! By the way, Max is 18 years old from New Brunswick, and will be CPR’s newest Train Conductor this summer! Congratulations, Max!!!

Revelstoke Railway Museum is a must-visit for train enthusiasts and those who cherish railroad history, deserving of four stars. The museum offers an abundance of information about the development of the railway through the Canadian Rockies. While the amount of text can be overwhelming at times, it adds to the depth of knowledge available. The exhibits include an impressive steam locomotive and a passenger car from the Canadian railway company housed indoors. Outside, more locomotives and cars are displayed, some showing signs of rust, adding to the museum’s vintage charm. Ideal for those who appreciate historical nuances and the romance of railways.
