this is my 1st time visit, I come to the LM for work regularly. as a recommendation by others, i visited this place today. lets start with the positive first, good pricing, compared with the Island, where I came from. Nanaimo to be exactly, we dont have the same selections. veggies and fruits are in no frill condition, you pay what you get...why dont i say the positive only stay on the price side, if you wish to be cheap and dont care about how you are treated, then come. keep in mind, i am from the Island, despite I am Chinese Canadian myself. i bet Chinese Canadians in the Lower Mainland have used to be treated in this way. now the negative experience.. #1, i was looking for 素雞, frozen tofu/plant based chicken. cuz I am a vegetarian. that was the reason when I visited here the 1st place. as someone bought it here and gave it to me from there.. ok, i asked THREE employees. everyone said "我不知道 , 問那個人. i dont know, ask someone else. 1st employee, the meat section, young kid with glasses, i asked him in Mandarin. he said "dont know. " i thought, he must not understand Mandarin. i used in English.. again, used English, not sure. I asked, can you get me someone who can help me? he said "nope, dont know!" . i said, sure must be some young kids today dont value their job. try second one, at the customer office, the gentleman pointed me the greeting lady to ask, i asked how. she was helpful and told me the approximate location .. look around the freezer, still not there. then try someone else... a gentleman reshevelling. same "i dont know!" "I DONT KNOW" seems to be the motto of this place! # 2 bad experience. on my way out, i asked one gentleman if i can grab an empty box, as i have a long drive back. he said not this one, but you can ask the back, i went to the back, one gentleman gave it to me, on my way out, the same gentleman told me to ask in the back suddenly saw me.. "my manager said not ok." i said you told me to come to back. he said "i gonna get the trouble!" i said "ask your manager to speak to me here then." of course nobody shows up. on my way out, the cashier told me indeed it was the store policy not to give out empty boxes.. i complained my experience. she didnt say anything. i was like, whatever, just a box.. on my way out, i told the greeter lady, 1st time here, not sure if i gonna come back. .. lack of training, dont know how to deal with customers are the big negative experience i have experienced today. but again, i gonna come back to this point, maybe Richmond is indeed this way.. Multiculturalism ghetto , even I am Asian myself, i hope more businesses treat others like a customer, not a number. though it might be hard to do in here. given how cheap everything is, probably cant really train...
Read moreRice World Supermarket is the worst supermarket I have ever been to in Vancouver. The environment inside is even worse than public markets, the produce looks terrible, and the cashiers have a bad attitude. I also don't understand why they don't accept credit cards. Even debit card usage has many restrictions. They do allow payments via Alipay and WeChat Pay in RMB, but when the exchange rate is unfavorable to them, they prohibit the use of these payment methods. However, other supermarkets that offer Alipay and WeChat Pay never disable these payment options regardless of exchange rate fluctuations.
Today, due to their terrible attitude, I finally lost my patience and posted a complaint on Xiaohongshu. As a result, I received threats from anonymous accounts. I have taken screenshots of everything and plan to report it to the police. This kind of behavior is unbelievably unacceptable in Canada.
After hearing about my experience, my friends have all decided never to shop at this supermarket again. Some elderly people may still go there because of the low prices, but younger shoppers might care more about quality and the appearance of the produce. I guess the people who shop there may not pay much attention to social media reviews, but that doesn’t mean this supermarket is suitable...
Read moreChina World Supermarket is a well-known destination among the Chinese community in Vancouver, renowned for its wide selection of products. They offer a variety of vegetables, fresh fish, and meats, as well as unique Asian and Chinese seasonings, grains, and other food items.
What makes this supermarket a favorite for many is its highly competitive pricing. Customers can often find meats and vegetables at significantly lower prices compared to other stores. However, there are a few drawbacks to consider. The supermarket does not accept local credit cards, limiting payment options to cash or WeChat Pay. Additionally, the product arrangement can be somewhat disorganized.
Despite these minor issues, the affordability of China World Supermarket is a major draw. It offers a comprehensive range of essential Chinese condiments and seasonings, which are highly appreciated by the local Chinese community. The low prices, especially in comparison to other supermarkets, make it a popular choice for budget-conscious shoppers seeking authentic Asian...
