Origin Delight Cafe - Coffee, Tea & Food — Restaurant in Richmond

I have a soft spot for these types of small, simple, unassuming, honest to goodness, hole-in-the-wall type cafes, and this one is definitely a hidden gem.

I ordered the truffle chicken croissant ($10) and the signature fruit tea ($8) The server was friendly and food was fast and tasty. The croissant was warm and soft, with a good portion of chicken salad on a bed of salad. The truffle smell was balanced and added a nice fragrance.

Fruit tea was quite nice as well. Fruity, and mildly sweet.

The thing that really stood out to me was the attention to detail. The takeout box came with plastic gloves so you could eat your sandwich without getting your hands dirty, and a plastic spoon so you could easily eat the fruit in your drink afterwards. This really reminded me of the type of mindfulness and consideration you find in Japanese culture.

I also really appreciate that they use a recognized brand of matcha, (Marukyu Koyamaen) and charge fair prices.

Atmosphere is of course in a semi-abandoned asian food court, so in that sense, it may not be ideal for some, but I think it has its own charm and fits the value expectation.

Food is good there. Ordered a few times. But it fail on their time controls. Placed order to at 12, for pick at 1. Arrived on time but said still not ready, 10 more mins, after 15mins they still not ready. If looks like they just start making my order when I arrived. Asked and they said for the advance order able to be on time, need 2 hours next time. The problem is, when I asked them would 1:00 be ok for pickup, they said ok. But it’s not, you shouldn’t tell people is ok when it’s not ok.

Update: Appreciate the owner replied and explained, I update to 3 star instead of 2. But also just a week ago I placed another order on phone, told wait 45mins to pickup, after I arrived on time, I still been wait for another 20mins to able to pickup. Perhaps that all incidence just happened on me? Another case that wrongfully gave the food to other client? I understand everyone make mistake, I only left negative review base on my rolls of experience from them by not able to meetup their deliver time again and again. They have good passion. I hope they are doing well...

Extremely understaffed and Below average tasting drinks

Reason for rating: came on a Tuesday for the first time and only one girl was working with 4 or more customers constantly. We would have told the girl to re-do our drinks if she wasn’t so busy ordered 3 drinks: 2 iced caramel macchiato’s and 1 blueberry milk fruit drink. The 2 iced beverages came out warm and tasteless. Blueberry milk fruit drink was decent because it seemed like there was a fair amount of fruit in there this is not a cafe with seats inside it was blocked off. We had to sit outside in the food court. we came for oysters as it seemed interesting for a bubble tea shop and oyster combo and it was unavailable (disappointment) it was very difficult to find this cafe (walking up to floor 2 and took almost 10 minutes to find it inside a food court
