Saskatoon's Meewasin Valley is an absolute gem that should be on everyone's travel bucket list!
One of the standout features of the Meewasin Valley is the Meewasin Valley Tours - which offer a wealth of information and education about the region's natural and cultural history. The staff are so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about sharing the story of the valley. I've learned so much about the indigenous heritage and the importance of conservation efforts in the area. It's truly inspiring to see a community dedicated to preserving their natural heritage.
For those interested in wildlife, the Meewasin Valley offers incredible tours for bird watching and dark sky photography. I was lucky enough to spot numerous bird species, including majestic sandhill cranes, pelicans and even a bald eagle!
If you're a history buff, you won't be disappointed either. The Meewasin Valley is home to the history and culture of the First Nations and Metis peoples who have called this area home for thousands of years.

Read moreI’ve been going out to beaver creek conservation area for years - decades even - and it continue to be one of my favourite places to view wildlife and flowers. There are a few trails to choose from, so we can wander through a little forest or native prairie, and soak up the sun or shelter from it. We happened to be there during a sheep grazing demonstration and learned so much about shepherding and alternative ways to manage invasive plants. We’ve seen the amazing impact a prescribed fire can have, and learned about its intense process, and the importance of protecting native plants during Meewasin’s Wildflower Walk. I would rate their events 5/5 in ADDITION to the peaceful atmosphere of simple being out at BCCA, so if you like learning through experiences, I recommend planning a visit when they’re hosting a fun event like the walk or others like naughty by nature - next on my list - or grazing dinners or dark skies…I forgot to mention I went to a bat themed dark skies event - it was sooo neat to see and hear different bats around the creek, unique and unforgettable!! There are just so many ways to fall in love with BCCA and the prairies even more. Thank you Kelton, Sam, Jared, Renny, and Owen - your knowledge and passion made it easy to remember countless fun facts to appreciate my visits to Meewasin’s conservation areas more, and better understand the landscape I’ve called home...
Read moreI didn’t know what to expect other than seeing a sheep herding demonstration and having a meal. I was definitely not prepared for the amazing experience that occurred. From the small hike through native prairie to see the sheep in action and back to the interpretive center for dinner the amount of information I absorbed from listening to the Meewasin staff was absolutely incredible. The passion that they have for not only the Meewasin Valley, but also their fields of expertise and the environment in general truly is phenomenal. Never in a million years would I think that I’d end up laying flat on my stomach in the middle of native prairie grassland and absolutely enjoying every minute of it. The dinner that followed was a palate pleasing delight and the chef took into consideration everyone’s dietary needs and made sure they were well looked after. I 100% recommend the Grazing Dinner as it will be an experience you’ll...
