I'm a fan of parks. This park stood out for me when growing up - we used to come here for picnics and I remember coming to see waves crashing on the beach - and returning here after many years away I'm seeing it still draw people to it.
Now, from the road I don't see the same things I do when in it. On several trips driving by it just made me think of a few things dropped into a wedge that needed filling - but that's not what I saw when I was in the park!
On our recent visit here (my partner's first), we arrived on a sunny October Saturday. The sun was out and the sky was blue. The air was not yet at the crisp part of fall, so it was still good for a shirt and no jacket. There was no wind and no waves, just a light breeze in places. People were playing badminton by the walkway along the shore.
This was a great day for a stroll by the water. The tide was in and boats were coming and going. Parking was easy, there were a few spots open in mid-afternoon, so we rolled right in.
We climbed out the boulder breakwater for fun, and to look at the islands. We checked out the grassy park and covered picnic area and continued down the beach side. The ocean and the ocean air was buffering the sounds around, so it was really mellow.
It was good to see the amount of space allowed for boat trailer parking, that helps with the general flow of the park. The skate park at the north end adds more for the local youth while still leaving a large amount of room for families on the field.
The waterfront walkway goes a long way south, so a lot of time can be spent there, too. For what we got to experience, Tulista Park is well laid out and helps bring more of the ocean & island sense - the nature outside and beyond - into the...
Read moreExcellent green space to sit and hear the ocean, feel the breeze, enjoy the beams on a sunny day. Beautiful view of Mount Baker and the Cascades on a clear day.
Clean and maintain washrooms, mini art gallery, picnic tables, seating and access to gravelly beach to comb and wade...water is very cold!
Nice walk north along waterfront past disused Anacortes Ferry Terminal with connection to a "hidden gem" - the Sidney Waterfront Walkway a bit further along; the Walkway will take you to the #SidneyPier and #BeaconPark.
#TulistaPark has a real full-size sand volleyball court, a children's play area, skate park, nearby boat launch, and plenty of parking.
Take the #72 from downtown Victoria, will drop you off right at the park .
Enjoy! Great spot for #planespotting as on the flightpath of #YYJ...
