If I could give this place negative stars, I would. Our entire experience at Sun Peaks was a disaster — unsafe, unwelcoming, disorganized, and a complete rip-off from start to finish.
Let’s start with the road up: completely unplowed, icy, and dangerous. No signage, no warning, no salt or sand in sight. We were sliding before we even reached the resort. Once we got there, things got worse. The parking situation is a joke — snow-packed, not plowed during the day, and totally unsafe. We had to haul our gear by foot for over 20 minutes just to get to the hill services desk.
When we tried to leave later, we were completely stuck. Glare ice under our tires left us spinning in place. We called guest services for help, and they flat-out told us they couldn’t do anything “because of liability insurance.” And yet, when we parked in the hotel lot for five minutes to ask for directions and try to find a place to eat, a tow truck was already lining up to yank us out. So they’ll rush to tow you — just not to help you.
We were paying guests staying at the resort. We had booked two suites at $400 a night each. When my parents couldn’t make it out from Ontario due to weather delays, we asked to cancel the second suite — and they refused. No flexibility, no compassion, just “too bad” — and we were forced to pay for a room that sat completely empty.
And good luck finding anything decent to eat. Restaurants at the resort open and close at random hours throughout the day, shutting their doors for hours at a time without warning. Nothing was open before 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday, and the only option we could find was The Annex — which was a loud, chaotic, muggy cafeteria filled with screaming kids and zero seating. The food? Greasy chicken fingers, soggy fries, and microwaved pizza. No nutrition, no variety, no care.
The ski hill itself was absolutely packed. Runs were crowded and choppy, making for a slow and frustrating experience. And for this, they charge $187 for a full day or $147 for a half day — and then shut the lifts down at 3:30 PM. It’s a complete rip-off, and they know it.
And just to top things off: when we were finally leaving, we slid across two icy lanes in the parking lot and crashed into a parked truck, severely damaging the front of our car. Once again, we called to report the conditions and accident — and no one cared. No staff came. No follow-up. Just silence.
Unless you're spending thousands of dollars a day in their elite accommodations or overpriced restaurants, Sun Peaks treats you like an inconvenience. We were paying customers, staying on-site, and still felt ignored, disrespected, and completely unwelcome.
This resort is mismanaged, overpriced, and built on squeezing every cent out of you while giving the absolute bare minimum in return. Dangerous roads, terrible parking, chaotic food service, and zero accountability from staff. We will never be back — and I’ll be telling everyone I know to avoid this place...
Read moreSun Peaks is the best ski resort I’ve ever been to. There are a wide variety of runs, ranging from beginner to expert, with a majority being in the intermediate range. The views are stunning, the slopes well maintained, and there are even boards at the top of each life to tell you which runs are groomed or not, updated daily. If you’d looking to take a day off from skiing, you can participate in some of the many activities they have available, such as dog sledding, riding on one of the groomers while they groom the slopes, or you can have a meet and greet with Olympic champion Nancy Green (there’s also an option to ski with her, a free tour and mini-lesson around the hill). One of the highlights of my stay was the Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent, where we skied down with only the stars and a headlamp to guide us.
Another great thing about Sun Peaks is how friendly everyone is. I have not met a single person who isn’t willing to help you if you need anything. This goes for both employees of the mountain and also fellow guests. It’s a great sense of community you won’t find anywhere else, especially not in the overcrowded and overpriced Whistler.
Speaking of Whistler, Sun Peaks’ base elevation is higher than Whistler, and therefore you get more consistent conditions throughout the mountain. I am extremely happy with my time here, and will certainly be back for more skiing on Canada’s...
Read moreOverall a beautiful property with a great pool (we were lucky to enjoy some sunshine).
Due to covid there was really no service, which is totally fine, but therefore I cannot comment on it. I would probably give this stay a 3.5, but there is no option to do so.
My partner had booked this stay for my 30th birthday, he had mentioned that it was my birthday during the booking on the website as well as in a separate email (which he btw never received any follow up/answer to). No one seemed to be aware at the hotel and there was nothing done about it. Honestly no big deal, but for someone with a hospitality background myself, I am just mentioning this, as the hotel seemed extremely quiet (no surprise with covid) and this would have been an awesome opportunity for the hotel to do something nice and special for one of the few guests staying from a Sunday night to Tuesday.
Second of all and more important the room was overall clean, but later on when we sat at the table we found crumbled pretzel pieces under the dining table and by the dining chairs. Meaning you could tell that Housekeeping had vacuumed half hearted and not moved the furniture...not extremely great with covid!
Note on the side: I have emailed these comments to the hotel right after the stay and received a follow up saying that my comments will be discussed with the...
