East Vanity Parlour — Attraction in Vancouver

I booked an appointment with Amanda to get arctic fox out of my long hair and go back to "natural" which is a dark dark warm brown. She managed pull out most of the AF colour and put in a demi permanent colour that is basically only black so doesnt match my roots but she said it should wash and fade so I'm hoping it will become a dark brown after a few shampoos. All in all, she was great...kept me in the loop at all times with what she was doing and the price wasnt a surprise at the end of the service.

My only issue I had was that when I got home there was still colour/chemicals left in my hair and on my scalp. I got home in the evening and after I washed my face makeup off, I began to get really itchy at the sides of my face and i broke out in hives. I thought I mightve had a reaction to my skincare products. I was quite itchy but slathered on some cream hoping for the best and went to bed. All through the night my face and scalp itched and mildly burned. The next morning my scalp was so itchy and I suspected I had a reaction to a product she used on my hair but I had to be somewhere early in the morning so I didnt wash my hair. The whole day was torture, my scalp burned and i could feel the stickiness of product near the nape of my neck. When I touched it and looked at my fingers, I found brown dye/residue. I basically dashed home and immediately washed my hair and was horrified (but not surprised) to see dye wash out of my hair and it took about a good 10 mins of thorough shampoo and rinsing to get it out. That was last night and while my scalp doesnt itch this morning, it still is very sensitive to touch and I have had a mild headache this entire time.

So while I was quite happy with the service, this one small incident caused quite me a bit of pain. Although to be fair, this has happened to me before as I have long hair and it's quite thick so it can be tricky getting all the product out.

I can appreciate that it was more a mistake rather than carelessness and I would go back for services. The ladies were quite pleasant and Amanda seemed knowledgeable and she put me at ease...

I came in for a 1/2hr colour the other day it was a pretty simple dye job as it was just one colour all over, nothing fancy...no cut, no style just dye. My booking stated 1/2hr along with a price associated with that service.........but yet I left paying an additional $30 dollars on top of my 1/2 hr colour charge in hidden fees that I was not told about. I was charged for a 15 min add-on cut, a chemical overage fee and an eco fee! I have short hair, I was in and out in 30 mins, not 45! When I asked about this they said it's the time it takes to finish and get you out the door...but I didn't require any "finishing" and was out the door in 30 min. It made no sense. I even requested not to have my hair dried because I was in a rush so I left with damp hair because I needed to be in and out within that time frame but somehow they decided to charge me these extra fees. I have never had this experience at any other salon before. When you go in for a service you pay for that specific service, why was I charged for a chemical fee, eco fee and an additional 15 min cut fee?? this is ludicrous. The stylist was great but the owner needs to rethink her pricing model. Because of this experience I will never go back again and I will not recommend this place. I encourage clients to review their bill closely. Ripping customers off and being dishonest like this is not ok, it's bad...

I had my hair cut by Jill a couple days ago and had a lovely experience. She was so sweet and funny, it honestly felt like hanging out with a friend for an hour. She also did a great job on my hair— I’m always trepidatious about getting my hair cut because it is curly and a lot of hairdressers don’t really know how to cut curly hair for some reason, but Jill was very knowledgeable and worked deftly with my natural hair texture to make it shine. She cut my bangs exactly the way they looked in the photo reference I showed her and helped to give the rest of my hair some shape that I didn’t even know I needed. I have nothing but good things to say about her and would go back to her in a heartbeat!

As far as the salon itself, the atmosphere is very vibrant and welcoming, with lots of colourful decor and a general vibe of positivity amongst the staff.
