Came here for a curl cut after doing a lot of research for the right stylist for my hair. I was confident who I specifically booked with because her portfolio online is amazing.
The person booking my appointment was really great and they were really good about answering questions.
Nothing personally wrong with the stylist or her assistant, I can tell they both are skilled and can get the job done pretty quickly. But something did seem off for the duration of the whole appointment. It might have been the heatwave, but there was a lot of awkward silences and she spent a lot of time talking to her assistant. I figured she was training her assistant so just let it be.
The consultation was surprisingly quick and she maybe asked a total of 4 questions if that regarding my hair and what I was hoping to achieve. Fair enough, I have seen her past clients cuts and figured this is just how she works. It was also extremely hot that day and so I figured like myself, maybe she was just dealing with that and didn't want to talk too much.
Before I knew it, she was already cutting my hair without spraying any water to help the hair show the natural curl pattern like I have seen many other stylists do. Again, I figured this was her years of experience and having a good sense for curls.
The prepping I was suppose to do for the appointment is to wash my hair a few nights before, come in and get it cut, and they wash and style it for you after. My hair does a funny thing when it's long and pulls on the upper curls closer to my roots and makes my roots look wavy, not curly especially when it's been a few days after washing. Again, I wasn't asked much about my hair during the consultation and there was no opportunity to tell the stylist this and before I knew it my hair was already being cut. I thought she was just being efficient and she seemed like she knew what she was doing.
In the end, the stylist did exactly what we talked about during the consultation. That being 1.what type of cut, 2. How short I wanted to go, 3. How short I wanted the shortest layer, and 4. If I liked more volume. I do believe she did the best she could given how minimal the communication was. And while I did initially like my cut at the salon because my head felt so much lighter then when I walked in. But because of shrinkage, the shortest layer is almost an inch shorter than what I wanted because there is no dead weight stretching the curls at my roots. This makes for a very weird look.
I don't know, I feel like a stylist at this caliber and at this rate should be more attentive to her clients and ask more than 4 questions and show more interest in the curl pattern because there are different types of curls. I feel like she might have just assumed my curls where just waves and didn't account for shrinkage, which again, a stylist with her amount of experience should have at least checked in about.
The whole hair cut experience at the salon was okay but they were attentive about other things like keeping a fan pointed in my direction because I am sensitive to heat. Maybe the stylist is only comfortable with a certain type of curls, maybe it was an off day, maybe it's miscommunication, who knows.
I was hoping to come back for a colour appointment in fall, but based on this appointment, this doesn't seem like the...
Read more@CURLY HAIR GIRLS NEVER come to this salon!! Don’t be fooled by the curly hair stylist’s work, I was through her instagram and thought she had great experience and skills, as I needed to find a stylist since I moved out here.
Kokopelli hospitality. People there are so incredibly rude, there is 0 service in asking how to make you more comfortable, nothing. I even sensed the owner of this place the first time I walked in (I had to go a second time because she messed up my hair) did not like me being there and it felt incredibly rude and racist as she kept staring at me or having to be near me when I was around the salon. The salon also looks horrible, and if you were a stylist with true professionalism, this is definitely not the salon you’d work at. Even after when I came for my stylist to correct my hair, she had her looming staring presence, even though I thought she’d come over to apologize and ask what went wrong in my appointment.
the stylist. I paid her over $900, as a student I saved for months and was excited because I only get to colour my hair once a year. I was a lighter blonde for about 3 years. She told me my inspo and my old hair colour was possible. Then after she toned it, suddenly she said my hair was going to be darker but will lighten. IT CAME OUT SILVER DARKER ASHY BLONDE! I was so upset, I couldn’t believe it. The haircut was good and the styling of curls I’ll admit that but wow that colour shocked me. Also I thought I paid $900 for her, not for her two assistants which was so annoying and just shows what she is really for, money, unfortunately.
This was for my graduation, I had been in shambles that this was what I was working with. I had to call her to get her to readjust my hair. SHE GASLIT ME YHE WHOLE TIME! She didn’t even apologize, didn’t acknowledge her mistake, made it seem like it’s fine and if I go lighter I will be orange (I was such a dark blonde by this point even dirty blonde it was hilarious she’d think that). She was so rude, got my sweater all wet, barely rebleached any of my hair and had to ask twice to up the gold toner to get me the warm colour I liked. she also tried to gaslight me that she did my lighter colour on my hair when that was my other stylist and just loved finding excuses for why she just is unprofessional and unable to do my hair.
Honestly, i’m still heartbroken. I have not gotten my money back from this appointment, and I am truly wishing I tried to fight but the owner does not look like she would. She doesn’t believe in the customer is right because she defends her stylist in all the other curly hair bad reviews, so can’t wait for that to added to this! Still my hair remains darker than what I wanted.
NEVER coming here again. I sooner let my hair die than trust these people or give them money cause they are so greedy and an awful salon. Love the gaslighting atmosphere. Do not give your service to a place like this please. I wish I had read the reviews, but was fooled by instagram of the stylist. and desperate to get...
Read moreI started going to Kokopelli Hair Salon about 9 months ago, after meeting stylist Jade at a coffee shop. I complimented her beautifully coloured hair and learned she is a stylist with a special interest in colour. I asked some questions about my hair and learned she clearly knows her stuff. Jade is smart, thoughtful and has a wonderful inviting vibe. So I took the plunge and booked an appt, hoping for a better result compared to the mediocre results I had been getting elsewhere.
My dark brown curly hair used to be one of my best features but a lot changed during and after the pandemic. It got very long with lots of grey coming in over the crown. The texture is curly type 3A/3B and is prone to frizz and drying out. I was wanting but very nervous about adding purple highlights and cutting some length off my hair, while also covering the grey.
Jade was friendly, supportive and non-judgemental. I felt so safe in her hands and decided to go for it! She started off with giving me a curly girl cut and took off about 6 inches of length where the volume was wispy. Jade then expertly blended out all the greys and added lots of purple and chestnut highlights.
I could write a separate paragraph on how dreamy the scalp massage was during the washing/conditioning phase... wow. My hair was then carefully dried and styled for lots of shine and bouncy curls. I was shown tips and tricks to reduce frizz and promote curl. I was thrilled with the results and they lasted for several days! My hair finally looked healthy and happy again. Jade is amazing and I have been going to Kokopelli to see her ever since. I also regularly purchase hair products there that work great to moisturize and minimize frizz. My hair hasn't looked this...
