This Opera about Carmen is a drama about love between a soldier and a Gypsy woman that involves smuggling and tragedy ..Carmen is lovestruck and a femme fatale at the same time.. the arias tug at the heart and were brilliantly expressed by the performers…The Queen Elizabeth Theatre is a wonderful location for the Vancouver Opera to stage this drama of Carmen..the seats are very comfortable and the staging of Carmen was a collaborative experience between the dramatic roles of the performers and the excellent staging..the orchestra was very much a creative partner in this dramatic opera of Carmen….The Habanera is identified as Carmen’s most famous aria , this is sung by Carmen when she first appears on stage in Act 1 and it is represented apparently many times in pop culture…this aria brought me to 100 % attention and I was present in a special way throughout the performance…so pleased to be here to support Opera...

Vancouver Opera hosts series called voices. Voices is an open event series that showcases artists, musicians, and performances related to operatic shows. We attended the 88th birthday celebration of Philip Glass and a pre-show for their ongoing Opera series called flight, a unique story about the experience of a refugee and an immigrant stuck at an airport for over a decade. We left with a deeper appreciation for the crisis and a richer understanding of the story of resilience and individual sacrifice than what we came with. It was a true honor!
