Booked Candyland for my Daughter's 5th birthday on Friday Oct. 21, 2022, it was a 6pm party. I have never been here in person (which was a total mistake, the online photos are a lie), went solely off of reviews and referrals. My overall booking experience was great, the staff were helpful. What made this an awful experience was upon arriving, the place was quiet, dark and felt a little dingy. Nothing felt clean. Although the staff was polite, there wasn't a "host" who helped with anything, they showed me to the room and that was it, I was provided with tape to decorate. It wasn't until I asked about the pizza and what time it would come, the female there said it arrived (1 HOUR PRIOR TO EATING TIME). She said she could only keep it warm for 15 min. By the time the kids ate the pizza was dry, cold and hard. I had to serve it myself. I suggest taking your own paper plates. The host didn't assist with the serving..
The party room seemed dirty, but we made it work. I had to ask for the coffee and tea which she did bring and continued to refill it throughout the night. The package came with balloons, there were 4 tiny balloons that looked like they were sitting there all day blown up for the party. There wasn't any music for the kids in the play area, when asked about it, I was told it's broken, there wouldn't be any music (something they should have told me when I booked). I played music through my phone. The place was really cold and the "arcade" area was disgustingly dirty, only some games worked. My kids were afraid to go on the slides at first because it was so dark, not sure if lights were broken or if this is just how it is. Overall the place isn't very well lit.
What made our experience even worse and embarrassing to our guests, was that the girls bathroom was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. You would think they might tidy it up prior to a birthday party, but there was pee on the seats and the floors in the stalls (where kids have to sit) toilet paper all over the floors, mirrors were disgusting and the sinks were dirty. The bathroom areas (both girls and boys) were very dark halls, definitely no where any adult would want to go alone, much less the kids. How can you send children to a washroom like this?
When I asked for the Managers name and number, the two employees went to the front, where they were overheard by my guests saying they were going to just make up a lie that one of them were the managers and they can only provide a name and an email as the manager of the place doesn't take calls. When confronted about this, the girl who said she was the manager, said that she was the key holder, I told her I'd like the number of the person above her then. I was still only provided with an email. The general email of candyland. They should have just been honest in the first place, but because they weren't they made things worse. So, I've decided to write reviews and post my experience on social.
The cake was the best part about the party. It was a beautiful cake (provided by candyland) and a new employee came on shift by the name of Olivia who was gracious and helped out with the cake cutting and serving. She was a great host who actually assisted. At the end of the night she did all the cleaning in the party room.
They charged me extra, $5.32 for 4 extra juice boxes and $7.50 for 3 water bottles.
For $650+ I will never book this place again, nor would I refer it. I saw one review that said it doesn't charge for parents but it does for parties. $15 per child (extra child outside of your package) and $6 for adults. I didn't mind paying because I expected a great experience.
This is the first of many reviews that I will post because as a parent you plan a birthday to make it a special day for your child. It was my Daughter's very first party and it was the worst experience I've had. I've booked many play places for my other kids and this was by far the worst. It was an embarrassing experience for my guests...
Read moreI can see that this place used to be all the rage but now it definitely needs an update.
We came here on a Saturday evening for a private party for my friend's daughter. She must have paid for the most expensive package based on having the whole facility.
We found the place to be outdated and worn down. Rips in the jungle gym equipment, the ball pit nearly empty of balls, the projector screen that had an interactive game playing not working at all. All the little rides, video games, and other play equipment that had a coin slot were pay per play, which I think is ridiculous seeing that you are already paying for your child for admission (website says $16.81+ HST for a child or $2699+HST for private weekend party) and now you need to pay an additional $1 to sit on a ride. There were crushed ball pit balls everywhere in the facility. Many of the seated benches had rips in the pleather fabric and it just looked very worn down.
The birthday package did come with party pizzas that were below average in quality but for some reason my husband and I had a hard time finding anything to drink. The teenagers that were running the place just hung out behind the counter and were not super helpful.
The bathroom had slippers for you to use (since it was a socks only facility) so they had 2 pairs of slippers for the women's bathroom, and my husband reported that they had only 2 left slippers for the men's bathroom. The bathrooms were not that clean; just bare minimum, little worn out foot stools for children for the toilets, an old diaper genie, etc. To top it off there was a playpen for young children to sleep in right in front of the women's bathroom, which I found kind of strange to have it in such a high traffic area, next to the toilet facility.
My son did enjoy some of the equipment but mostly the smaller play structures. The larger structures did have poor lighting and some areas were quite hard to navigate as an adult. The slide at the far back of the facility went pretty fast though and we all enjoyed being hurled 10 ft across the mat before landing when coming down the slide.
Overall we did enjoy our time here (as our son enjoyed his time and we enjoyed being with our friends) but we wouldn't come back again unless the facilities were updated. Some simple things that could be done include getting more ball pit balls, cleaning up the facility a little bit, replacing some of the ripped equipment, and no longer charging money to play with the rides there (since there is already an admission fee). Otherwise there are numerous facilities out there in the GTA that are...
Read moreHonestly, if I could give this place zero stars I would. There is one staff member working and they remained at the front desk for the duration of our visit. There are no staff in the large play area to assist guests or enforce guidelines.
Their policy is that all persons 4 years + wear masks, but there were plenty of older children without masks and several adults with their masks hanging around their chin.
There is a small toddler area with clear signage that is sectioned off (“area for children under 3 years”). Despite signage and common sense there were parents inside letting their large children ransack the area, throwing items around making it completely unsafe and unusable for us. There was even a parent lounging in the toddler area with her feet up using pieces of equipment like it was her living room.
Maybe this would have been considered less gross before Covid times, but considering we just entered Stage 3, and this place just opened yesterday, it is disgusting how uncleanly this place was.
This feels like a money grab. There were many ride on toys like you see at the mall where parents need to pay a dollar, as well a pay-per-use massage chairs (odd because aren’t parents supposed to be supervising their children?). It cost my husband and I $21 to bring our child who is under 1.
I strongly do not recommend this...
