My husband and I got married at McMichael on September 17 2022. Overall, we enjoyed having our wedding at McMichael, however there are a few things brides should know before booking.
Pros: Food dudes is their exclusive caterer - the food is amazing, and working with food dudes was an amazing experience The grounds - the property is stunning and great spots for photos. Uniqueness - this site is so different from other venues in the GTA, you will for sure wow your guests with the location.
Cons: Lack of communication - if you are an unorganized bride or don't have a planner, you will be on your own for the majority of stuff (day of, booking bridal suit etc) with McMichael. We had the coordinator at McMichael call me on the day of our wedding to ask if we wanted to change galleries for our cocktail hour. Very last minute and stressful for a bride.
Staff - overall the staff were fairly easy to work with but there is a general tone of rudeness at McMichael. I won't put specifics in this review but there were some inappropriate comments made by gallery staff to our photographer. This really put a damper on the evening at our wedding. I notified McMichael and they apologized but I never heard back to see if that employee had been spoken to/reprimanded.
Bridal suite - the bridal suite wasn't available upon us arriving, a detail that had been confirmed months in advance. The grooms suit had leftover sushi in it from the night before. That was super disappointing since we paid extra for the grooms suite.
Timing - if you are getting married at McMichael prepare yourself for a later wedding. This was fine with us, but the later ceremony time made it somewhat challenging to take pics before the ceremony as the grounds are open the public throughout the day .
Overall, it was lovely to get married at McMichael but make sure you're organized and on the ball before...
Β Β Β Read moreThe McMichael gallery has always been a hidden gem for me. Just outside the city in Kleinburg, youβll find an entire days adventure in the museum and on the grounds of Ojibwe Anishinaabe people. Itβs breathtaking. I arrived an hour before closing on this date and found it was not enough time for my guest to take it all in. There was only one persons selling tickets when we arrived and without exaggeration we waited for over 10mins with a line of 6 people behind us. Although I knew the customer service has always been lacking here, I wished she could have acknowledged us, said Iβm just selling/explaining a membership, Iβll only be a few more mins, or let me call a colleague to assist you. I had enough time to walk over to the gift shop stand in line and try and buy tickets over there. Unfortunately, they only sell tickets for advance dates and told me to go back to the front desk. We were next in line and I requested 2 adult tickets and an audio guide for my friends first time. She slid the tickets on the counter and said βthereβs no audio guide todayβ and called for the next in line. I still donβt know why it wasnβt available that day.
Anyway, parking is $7. Adult entry is $18, buy your tickets online so you wonβt have a similar issue. The museum is on a 100 acres on ground so wear comfortable shoes if you plan on hiking the trails and perhaps a clean pair of shoes if you do the museum last.
The McMichael is a fraction of the size of the ROM or AGO but is laid out in a way that feels so grand. They have so many hidden seating areas you could sit for hours taking...
Β Β Β Read moreThe art museum in Kleinburg is known as the "Museum of the Seven" in Chinese culture due to its collection of seven artists. It is located in a charming park and features nine exciting statues and a wedding arch. One of the prominent artists showcased in the museum is McMichael. Since 1955, the Seven Artists of Ontario have been exhibited here by McMichael and her husband, Robert. Later, Robert donated the collection and venue, his own property, to the Ontario government. The museum building is breathtaking, with several halls and a quaint cafΓ© where visitors can discuss the art, grab a cup of coffee, or have lunch. It is divided into two parts, an outdoor section with sculptures and exhibits, and an indoor area that has been expanded several times. The natural setting of the museum is impressive, with stunning grounds to explore in addition to the gallery of famous Canadian artists. The art gallery showcases not only the Group of Seven but also the works of contemporary artists. The exhibition hall flow is well-organized with many corridors and galleries to explore. The top floor houses a small amphitheatre where visitors can enjoy concerts and performances, such as the one we witnessed in memory of TOM THOMSON by TAFELMUSIK. The museum is definitely worth a visit, with a ticket price of $20 and parking at $7. I recommend visiting during the spring and autumn seasons for the best experience. Overall, the museum's environment perfectly complements the artwork on display, making it a great place to spend...
