Becker Park PumpTrack — Attraction in Vernon

Becker Bike Park is so much more than just a place to mountain bike. This wonderful green space is situated not too far from Downtown Vernon and offers a peaceful escape from the city. In addition to the bike trails, there are also hiking trails that run up and down this ridge. The views of Vernon, the surrounding valley and mountains are spectacular. There is also interesting geology, with glacial scrape marks on the rocky ridge top as well as some ancient volcanic rocks. The vegetation here is typical of the Okanagan Valley with desert, dry grassland and dry forest plants. Some of the plants of the Okanagan semi-arid vegetation community that can be found here are as follows: Ponderosa Pine (Pinus Ponderosa), Grey Rabbitbrush (Ericameria Nauseosa), Big Sagebrush (Artemisia Tridentata) and Brittle Prickly Pear Cacti (Opuntia Fragilis). If you go in June or early July, you might see the cacti in full bloom. The rabbitbrush is probably the most prolific bloomer of the desert/dry grassland shrubs and is an explosion of gold in late summer and autumn. I had known about the new pump track, but had no idea there was a short hiking trail that leads to a small Ridge. It only takes about ten minutes to walk to the top. There is also an additional bike track with BMX like jumps like you would see in the Olympics with marked beginner, intermediate, and advanced entrances.

I was surprised I didn't encounter snakes, rodents, or bugs on this trail. Maybe it happens during winter weather.

This is behind the popular rec centre but yet not one person has referenced this hiking trail.

It is a relatively small space, but am pleasantly surprised the city created this to make it be usable by the general public.

You can see East Hill and Turtle Mountain area simultaneously which is somewhat neat.

Hats off to the city of Vernon. This pump track is incredible, and it was completed to perfection, professionally done, absolutely no blemishes. Very smooth and a really good layout with different corners and track elements.

Absolutely so much fun for kids of any age from strider bikes to BMX bikes to mountain bikes. For adults too!

Worth the drive in from the surrounding area to ride. The Astroturf in between is perfect and there is even two picnic tables with a grassy area for kids to play. Can’t say enough good things about this. Thank you city of Vernon for doing and constructing something amazing for...
