Stayed here on the Sunday of the August long weekend. We were able to get a room by some form of luck, and the details were arranged over the phone by an extremely personable hotel employee who was obviously aware of the difference good customer service can make. My girlfriend and I chose to book the room rather than shop around for something cheaper simply because of the way the phone call was handled, and we were not disappointed when we got there!
The service at check-in was welcoming and myself, girlfriend, and 3 year-old daughter were all treated extremely well. The process was quick, without feeling rushed, and after we were finished, a short time later we were entering our room. The rooms are clean and welcoming, despite being a bit aged. Sure this isn't a new hotel, but the rooms are holding up well enough. We used the pool/hot tub, which is located in the inner core of the hotel. It was nice to get into the water and just relax with the family.
After a dip in the pool, we decided it was time to eat. This had been a stressful day, and we were looking for something convenient. While I was personally a bit reserved on the idea of eating at the in-hotel restaurant, we decided to give it try, as it didn't require us going anywhere but 10 steps out the door of our room. We were greeted by an enthusiastic, caring, and personable, and experienced waitress, who immediately identified that our toddler was hungry, and wanted the world to know about it. She found us a quiet booth where we wouldn't be intrusive to others, and was quick and attentive. The food was great, exactly what we needed. None of us ordered anything exotic, despite a macadamia encrusted fish plate that was described in such a way that my girlfriend and I could practically taste it. After a great meal of comfort food, everyone felt a bit better, and we returned to the room for a restful sleep, something we had been looking forward to before a long drive back to Calgary, Alberta.
We sincerely thank the Best Western Plus in Vernon for one of the best accommodation experiences we have ever had. As a whole, we never met a single staff member who didn't seem genuinely happy to be there. A+ to the entire team of employees. Oh one more thing to mention, something that went a bit “above and beyond”, we forgot Bunny, our daughter's favourite sleeping companion, and did not notice until we were more than an hour away from Vernon. We phoned the hotel, and the person who answered the call personally took the effort to go to our room and search for the missing stuffed rabbit. When found, he informed us that it would be packaged up and sent in the mail that day, and within about a week, Bunny had made the trip through the mail system and was back home. That was a little icing on the cake for our stay. ...
Read moreOverall, this hotel met our basic expectations — our room was clean and the hotel staff (particularly housekeeping) were friendly enough. We also appreciated that this hotel is dog friendly (we weren’t travelling with a dog, but we think lodgings do deserve props if they are dog/pet friendly!)
As others have mentioned, it’s a pretty dated building (aside from the lounge and pool area, which is uniquely and beautifully decorated with greenery and a water feature). Our room was a floor below the lobby and it unfortunately felt like we had booked a stay in a dungeon. The room was a bit smelly, but again that was likely due to age. We’ve definitely stayed in nicer/comparable Super 8 Motels, at a lower cost, but for one night this room was just fine.
Tip: bring ear plugs! The walls are very thin!
Our main issue with the Vernon Lodge had to do with miscommunication and disorganization amongst the customer service staff whom we dealt with before our stay. We were visiting Vernon for a wedding that began at 4pm; given that standard check in time for many hotels is at 4pm, we made a point to inquire about the possibility of an early check in, so we could drop things off and then head to the wedding venue. Two separate staff members confirmed we could check in at 1pm, saying this wouldn’t be a problem given how far in advance we were booking (~3 months). So we went ahead and booked our room — from a logical standpoint, we obviously would have scoped out other options if an early check in wasn’t guaranteed here, but because the staff were so confident, we felt relieved and went ahead with our plans.
THREE DAYS before our stay, we received an email saying that early check in would NOT be guaranteed and that the staff we spoke to do not work there. The timing of this email was very frustrating and panic-inducing (and confusing!), but we made the decision to take our chances with keeping the reservation.
Fortunately, we spoke to yet another staff member who said they can TRY to have the room ready early. Luckily they were able to make this happen when we did arrive before 4pm, and we only had to wait a few minutes for the room. However, the immense anxiety our party dealt with at the beginning of our vacation left us with a sour taste before we even arrived, and there was just nothing very outstanding about our stay that could make up for it. We just feel this could have all been avoided had we received clear and accurate information from Vernon Lodge’s staff at the time of booking (but it seems like hotel staff were confused themselves…).
We feel unsure about staying here again. This lodging choice is adequate, especially for a quick stay in town, but it seems like Vernon has several other options for accommodations so we would most likely check out alternate places before booking a...
Read moreSince my first post was taken down by the hotel, what a surprise.
I booked reservations for my husband, myself and my dog on line 2 months ago. Paid for in full at the time of booking. I not only requested a pet friendly room, I called hotel to confirm that we would get a pet friendly room and was assured that we would. On our arrival at hotel we were told we didn’t have a pet friendly room and they had no record of that even though we clearly came in with a dog. I had to pull up my reservations to show that I had indeed requested a pet friendly room. They gave me room keys, realized after that she gave us original room keys and not updated pet friendly room keys. She had to redo our keys again. We get to our room, it stinks, smells like mood, sheets aren’t clean, bathroom is gross. We stayed on the clean bed and ended up leaving the next day as this room was so gross I would not stay another night. Just because we have a 25lb dog does not mean we would ever stay in a room that filthy. On check out I questioned why they put a $455 charge in my husbands credit card for a deposit when we had already paid for our room $379 on snap travel. She says they have no record that it’s been paid. I am now really angry, my husband is upset. I tell him to drive to the bank as I’m going through my email. I find the email that says paid in full, we drive back to the hotel and show them. They say they have no record of this but to send them the email and they will refund it. I said I’m not leaving until you process the refund and I have a receipt. We live 6 hours away in Tsawwassen and this is ridiculous. If there company is going to use websites to book there rooms they should have the information and not be getting it all from there guests. This hotel was gross, the rooms stunk so bad and I would save your money and stay somewhere else. The fact they deleted my first review is appalling, they don’t want people to know how bad it really is.
Update * To date we were charged $455.00 for our room. We were only refunded $403.98. My husband was told he would receive the $51.32 back on his credit card within 3 days. This still has not happened. I have left a message with General Manager which still has not been answered and when I call the hotel they do not answer my calls. This is not a well managed business. As a professional business manager myself I am appalled at how unprofessional this has been. I would appreciate a phone call back to resolve...
