A Mike burger use to mean something. I’m actually sad to write this as Mr Mikes in Vernon should be closed down.
We showed up around 3pm. The place was very quiet. It took almost 10 minutes for the server to come seat us and started by saying. “Don’t worry, I saw you guys waiting.
We ordered ceasers and this was the only enjoyable part of our meal. I ordered the Mike lodge burger with garlic parm fries and my wife got the beef dip with onion rings. Our friend ordered the the quesadilla.
The food was prepared decently fast since there weren’t many people there. Some of our food was ready and just sat under the heat lamps. I watched as our server walked by them several time. It took another 5 minutes for the food to make it to our tables.
Now the food. My wife’s beef dip was supposed to be shaved beef but looked and tasted like ground up deli meat. Onion rings weren’t bad though. Our friends quesadilla had chicken so dry she couldn’t finish it. And my burger which has always been the staple of Mr mikes. 25 dollars. It was the equivalent of a size of a McDonald’s McDouble. One thing slice of bacon, one half soggy piece of lettuce with a stale bun and a dried out pickle sitting on top. The fries showed up like you guessed it. They had been sitting out under a heat lamp. So soggy they were almost inedible and had so much garlic it burned your eyes.
The server never came by until we were all done eating what we could. I explained how bad the fries were and you could tell she got this alot because she never asked how our food was and our discount was she took off the 2 dollar up charge for the fries so I guess it helps I still pay for the normal fries.
As soon as we left, our stomachs started turning like we were served old undercooked processed food. And I’m sure if the manager reads this. They will respond with “we will look into your concerns” and nothing will change because no one at this places cares.
You have ruined one of my favourite restaurants and I’d rather you close down than wreck the Mr Mikes...
Read moreWe dined on a Friday night around 545pm. Was told there was a 20 min wait for a table, waited less than 10 min. Our server Morgan was extremely friendly and great with our two children. Our Stuffed Mushroom appetizer was not as hot as we expected, usually mushroom caps are molten hot but ours were just luke warm and looked as if they had been sitting under a warmer, but still extremely delicious flavours. Our children's meals arrived with the appetizer as per our request and my daughter's grilled cheese definitely looked as if it had been sitting a bit, it was cool to the touch and the cheese looked hardened, luckily she's 5 and didnt seem to mind. I got the Filet Mignon dinner, the brussel sprouts did not look very fresh and had some less than appetizing spots on a couple of them but the orange glazed carrots were amazing, the garlic mashed potatoes and gravy were delicious and the steak, oh man it was phenomenal! It was more on the rare side than the medium rare I ordered but I surprisingly didnt mind at all, the steak was so tender it melted in my mouth, I was still thinking about that steak the next day! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his burger and poutine as well. Once we were finished eating our server seemed to have gotten distracted and took a while to get back to us and get us our desserts and bill, but I think she had another larger table who was taking up her time. 4 stars because the freshness didnt quite seem up to par on a few items, especially for the price you're paying. Overall a pleasant experience, would return for their steak...
Read moreWe had a fantastic experience at Mr. Mike’s, on Friday! Our family of 5 was heading up to Blind Bay for our grandmother’s 80th birthday, and decided to have supper in town before the drive up. Our server, Jolene, was absolutely top notch. As a hospitality manager in my professional life, it’s supremely important for me to celebrate customer service excellence. Jolene set the tone with a golden moment as soon as we arrived, by wishing my grandmother a happy birthday and making sure she was settled and excited for the experience.
We enjoyed happy hour appies: the lobster dunk, panko shrimp and bruschetta, along with cocktails (and a margarita mocktail for a pregnant me!) and our mains. Jolene took care in addressing my grandmother’s dietary restrictions and made great recommendations for the rest of us. My grandmother loved her steak and my mom was very happy with her Cajun chicken fettuccine.
From an operations standpoint, I appreciated how involved the BOH/Management staff were in providing excellent service, along with the various table checks throughout the night. That lets me know that they care about the level of service and make the effort to keep a well-oiled machine.
We wanted to catch as much light as we could on our drive, so Jolene graciously organized our desserts to go. The food was what we expected and we were happy for the value, but the service was truly star.
I know they’ve opened a Mr. Mike’s in Kelowna, but I might end up fiercely loyal to the Vernon location because of this experience....
