The car show world of wheels was outstanding. The food venue In the concourse was disgusting. They served poutine ... How do you screw up poutine? I have celiac and I asked if the fries were coded and if the gravy was gluten free and they had to phone downstairs to the kitchen The people that they had serving had no idea what I was talking about. You should have people trained with people with allergies and disorders if you're going to serve food I don't think any of these people knew what the hell they were doing. They certainly didn't know how to deal with a complaint because the next day I saw other people back in line complaining about the exact same thing. So obviously my complaints the first day went unnoticed I had a horrible night because of it. Obviously they don't take people 's autoimmune systems seriously, I mean that's a health issue as far as I'm concerned and then we find out through some of the people at the car show that there was a guy with a food truck, a pop-up food truck serving the most amazing grilled cheese sandwiches with pulled pork and it was gluten free on day three. We were able to get our hands on them and they were outstanding. Didn't have a problem and they were able to accommodate people with gluten intolerance. Why was that guy shifted off looking after a bunch of dancers that aren't going to eat a grilled cheese sandwich anyways because they're worried about looking like a pencil. And meanwhile you've got 20,000 people looking at cars at a car show who are obviously going to be in that demographic to eat that kind of food and they get served garbage. Wow! I later discovered that the RBC convention center it was their kitchen that was serving the food. Obviously they were just trying to make money off volume quantity over quality. Absolutely disgusting poutine though I couldn't believe it and when I see other people in the line the next day complaining about gluten issues and them not having rectified the problem or at least telling people that it wasn't gluten free. Well, whoever was in charge of that should be fired. I'm sorry I don't like to get people fired but they should have been fired. That is a health hazard. The salads looked good. I wanted to try one the next day but after dealing with the outright lie to my face I wasn't going to give them any of money. Do better next time. RBC convention center if you had a good quality product and segregated them to one area that was a lost opportunity. As far as I'm concerned the car show was fantastic, but next time I think I'll bring...
Read moreHard to rate since I did like some aspects of my experience. The venue location was great. 5 stars. The decor was great. 5 stars. The waiters and waitresses were very helpful and kind. 5 stars. The food......that is where the disappointment was. 2 stars. In consulting with my family who do not have the allergies I have, the food was subpar. From my point of view with allergies, the food was even worse. I have a number of allergies that I made them aware of but there were still lots of things that were simple for flavour that was available to them. I have a gluten allergy so no bread for me. I was surprised that they did not purchase a loaf of gluten free bread and maybe toast and butter some for, at least something to eat while the gluten eaters ate theirs. Luckily, I anticipated this and brought my own. Then for a salad, I got a plate of Romaine lettuce, no dressing, nothing....not even oil and vinegar. That was beyond boring. I felt like a rabbit being handed her evening lettuce. Then the main meal, I got carrots, green beans and a chicken breast with no flavouring just plain old cooked chicken breast. In desperation I slathered it with butter and asked the waitress for some Parmesan cheese to smother it with at least some flavour. What happened to spices? What happened to melting some cheese over the breast? How about garlic butter??? Really poor effort on the cooking staff’s part. Finally, dessert. No gluten free option available. I got a plate of melon. Yawn!!!! I asked the waitress for some whipped cream and I got a small dollop on the side. Well, I anticipated this lack of effort too so I brought my own gluten free cake. I paid $75 dollars for my dinner ticket and half of it, I brought my own food. Hmmmm, not great value for my money. I really wish restaurants and caterers would actually make an effort on us poor allergy sufferers behalf. We want to enjoy our food too and we do like dessert which many restaurants don’t seem to get when they offer a gluten free menu with no dessert alternative other than fruit and or ice cream. While I agree that there are some allergy people that are very difficult to service ,if their allergies are extensive, but there are simple ways to accommodate many. They had a month to figure out how to do that with me and whoever else needed allergy accommodations. But, until the catering/restaurant industry wakes up, bring your own food so you can enjoy...
