I only took pictures of the food I actually ate. The soup was ale and something but was just a different name for French onion soup. The broth was great. I didn't care for the amount of brioche inside, but that's personal taste. I do not recommend the calimari. At $12 there was a lot of onions, peppers and things that were not calimari. The French onion burger was Ok. It was too sweet for my taste? Was not expecting that level of sweetness. It didn't taste as good as the soup. The bun it was on was good. The best were the fries. I was impressed that all the food came out piping hot. The fried food was done well. I mean it was very crispy and retained it's heat. That doesn't add enough to the lack of actual calimari in my dish. Service was mediocre. She wasn't listening to my order properly... I had asked for the calamari first so we could share and she served it the other way. She was friendly for the most part but her smile dropped a lot. Was not self aware for refilling empty water glasses. There was a lot we didn't eat. Server never asked us if it was OK. Kind of wish we had gotten the other guy as our server instead. We had sat separately at first not realizing we were part of the same group. When we joined up we got this server.

This was the first restaurant I ate at when I visited Winnipeg. I stayed at the Delta Hotel Marriott and I liked the convenience that it was right next door to the hotel. [VIBE] The vibe of the pub was a British underground space and pretty spacious at the time I went, which was late dinner. [SERVICE] A little slow and not busy at all. I went late evening so there weren't many servers around that time. [FOOD] The Sunday Roast - Turned out to be a huge meal for one. It came with a puff pastry on top, mash, long beans and cooked carrots, and some thin slices of roast beef. It wasn't bad for the price point! Mini-Sausage Rolls - This one was probably my favorite. It seemed to have missed it's garnish in another review I saw, but other than that, it was the sauce which made it tasty. It came with a chutney like sweet sauce to dip the rolls in. It had a decent portion to share between 2-3 people. The Wee Pie Flight - This was small enough to taste test each of the savory pies, but I didn't find anything too special with them. Overall, food was not bad for a late night snack or meal! I would go again just for the sausage rolls. I found them addicting. IG: missasia.pattyc

Wanted to avoid going to chains during my visit to Winnipeg and they have one of these back home in Toronto, but I was looking for a quick bite where I could watch the Leafs game and this pub was attached to the hotel, making it super convenient. Staff here were really friendly. I originally came in intending to sit at the bar since I was by myself, but the bar was full. A super nice lady came by and said she had the perfect spot for me, and gave me a full table with a great view of a TV, even though I was by myself and the place was busy! My waitress Brandy was also very nice and quick, but didn't pressure me to hurry up to make space for more people. Food was solid - got the ale and onion soup and the deluxe burger. Solid portions and the fries were really well prepared. TVs everywhere makes it the perfect pub for sports. Saw that it was a really popular spot for Jets fans after the game when I returned to the hotel (I imagine it was probably very busy for the game as well).

  • LONG REVIEW * Table for two No wait, comfortable seating and setting. Immediate beverage service Caesar: which most Canadians are incredibly fussy about, was spot on to my liking Long Island Iced Tea: table mate said it was really good, did not confirm with my own testing though

Server: friendly and apt

Deep Fried Pickles: arrived hot and in abundance, quite a large order was pretty decent even with just plain ranch dressing for a dip. The panko crust was crunchy and not soggy considering it was coating pickles

Loaded Poutine: arrived cold, the fries around the edge of the plate were cold, not even room temperature, the gravy was congealed and cold as well, curds were not melted. The rest of the toppings were as ordered, green onion, tomato and sour cream, hard to mess those 3 things up Sent it back to be remade, no hassle from the server, quite apologetic and immediately attended to it. Arrived hot the second time around, the gravy wasn't to my liking nor the fries, but that is personal taste, at least it was hot this time around

French Dip with Caesar Salad: Salad was crisp and not over dressed. A lot of cheese, so for some it may have been overkill. Croutons were not typical, which is nice, pumpernickel maybe? A bit on the hard crunch side, which is probably why other places over dress their salads, but not terrible Sandwich was put together by a free form sandwich architect for sure using mediocre ingredients. The beef tasted old and the oil from the beef being on the flat top or pan heated destroyed the bun. The cheese, swiss, was dry on one side, the side flapping about 1/3 out of the sandwich. Attempts to reassemble failed as the non-hard piece of the slice was actually melted. Mushrooms and onions were in there sparingly and the au jus was thin, cold and covered in a thick layer of grease that was neither delectable nor desirable, one dip and that was it for me. Ate my half of French Dip without bun, as it had disintegrated, and without the Dip. This should have went back too but the table mate just decided to live with it, so we did. Would not recommend.

Food was lack luster, about a 2 out of 5 and I wouldn't recommend either the poutine nor the French Dip.

Service was spot on, server checked back several times to ensure we were attended to. Friendly and very accommodating.

Sent a review through their website and it didn't take long for someone to reply, management perhaps, regarding the experience. We weren't offered anything, not that we were looking for anything specific, rather than a sorry for the experience, thank you for your feedback and hope to see you again for other items.

I would say the shining moment was the service and the partial response to the concerns I brought up in a review similar to this on their survey website, but I wouldn't recommend the dishes that we had aside from the deep fried pickles and the Caesar salad if it was a stand...

My family went there for supper, the place was a mess when we walked in. There was food on the floor and in the booth we were seated at. And there was food and crusty leftovers on our table. The waitress never cleaned it up even after we made mention of it. She laughed it off and kept talking to us about bizarre things. we didn't have any interest in. We ordered our food, the waitress was very weird and very over sharing of her issues. When we got home, my son became very very sick and was food poisoned from the Elephant and Castle. He was sick for almost 4 days and threw up for 2 days straight. I contacted the restaurant and management did call me back and said that they will look into it and would take the matter seriously, which is good, but then dismissed it saying he had the same food my son had later in the day and he didn't get food poisoned. Not sure if he knows how that works or not. Any ways he said he would like to offer my son 10% off next time he comes for lunch. You poisoned my son and you think he or any of us will ever be back??????? He never offered to comp the meals, apologize for what happened, nothing. My son has never been so sick in his life and you didn't think about any kind of compensation, like refunding us our money for the meals, that by the way were cold and a bit crusty when they came out (all of them), then Elephant and Castle food poisons my son, and the manager said he would like to offer 10% off his next visit. What a joke!!!!!! I have told everyone I know about this experience we had, and every one was horrified with the way it was all handled and they said they would never go there either because of that. ...

Was at the Elephant and Castle today July 28/2018 at 6:30pm. Was staying at the delta! IF YOU ARE STAYING AT THE DELTA GO TO THEIR RESTAURANT NOT HERE. Nothing but disappointment and discuss. The bartender. Jaice is what it said on the receipt she had brown hair and a white stripes on dress. She was just awful. Gave me my drink without a straw for my rum and cola. I had to wait 10 mins! No exaggeration 10 mins for her to come back and ask for a straw. She was rude and barely acknowledged us! I asked for my burger without cheese as I’m allergic to milk. Jaice came back telling me they put cheese on my bugar and they are redoing it. Got my burger 30 seconds later.. burger was burnt and still had left over cheese on it!! They just tired cooking off my cheese!! I now am sick right now and had to stay in while my friends went out to explore.. I am more then upset! Other things to add in here is. I asked for a double drink she gave me a single!! I saw her pour a single not a double!! Also there where no paper towels left in the bathroom I told Janice she said that’s not her job and didn’t do anything!!! Nothing but bad things to say!!!! I am really upset and I hope no one every comes here again!!!

NOTE: I also didn’t tip Janice for such awful service and SHE SAID TO ME “IT WOULD BE NICE IF YOU TIPPED I DONT SERVE FOR FREE” I couldn’t believe it.... worst experience at any restaurant ever.. MCDONALDS has better service then this place and JAICE SHOuld not be...
