Winnipeg holds a special place in my heart, and among its many gems, The Forks stands out as a beloved hangout spot. Situated at the heart of downtown, this national historic site of Canada has long served as a vibrant meeting place for locals and tourists alike. What makes The Forks truly special is its diverse offerings, catering to a wide range of interests and tastes. As a food enthusiast and chef myself, I was delighted to discover the array of food stalls featuring various ethnic influences, complemented by a delightful selection of beers and wines—a treat for any wine lover like myself. On numerous occasions, I've brought friends, from fellow nurses to chef comrades, to experience the magic of The Forks, and without fail, they've all fallen in love. The affordability of the food prices only adds to the appeal of this bustling hub of activity. But it's not just about the food and drinks—the atmosphere at The Forks is incomparable. Whether it's the vibrant energy of the people, the diverse range of activities available year-round, or simply the enchanting ambiance of the outdoor museum, there's something truly special about this place that captivates visitors. Moreover, The Forks boasts an ideal location within walking distance of numerous local restaurants and coffee shops. Café Postal, in particular, has become a personal favorite of mine for its exceptional coffee, conveniently located nearby. For those looking to explore further, a short walk across the bridge leads to yet another historical gem: Old St. Boniface, a must-visit destination in its own right. And for accommodations, the area surrounding The Forks offers a variety of Airbnb options, providing a more personalized and immersive experience for visitors. In essence, The Forks is more than just a destination—it's an experience. With its rich history, diverse culinary scene, and vibrant atmosphere, it's a place that truly has something for everyone. Whether you're a local looking for a weekend hangout or a tourist exploring Winnipeg, The Forks is a must-see destination that will leave you enchanted and eager to return.

I love the old historic side of the Forks Market. From the exposed brick walls and narrow alleys to the small shops lining the place, it's a place I keep coming back to. It's a busy place on a weekend evening, but that is to be expected. I wandered around the food court for quite some time, checkingbout the various vendors before deciding to go Sri Lankan - but by then they had closed. Then I went for round two and wound up at the Fusian Experience: a place that serve q variety of Asian food including an assortment of sushi and other seafood. I settled for the Hawaian rice bowl. It was an entirely new experience for me. There were flavours and foods there that I had never tasted before. I sat down to enjoy the meal amidst a very noise crowd. When finished, I wandered upstairs to check out the shops and displays there. Unfortunately they were all closed already. I guess that calls for another visit... Next my way led me out of doors, across the plaza to the Johnson terminal, which I briefly toured, and then out another door along walking paths to the walking trails criss-crossing the grounds surrounding. Due to the warm weather we've had the last several days, a lot of the trails were slushy or even had several inches of water on them. I made my way around the puddles as best I could, sometimes using the skating trail and other times walking on the snow beside. I walked over to the Provencher Bridge, stopped to admire the lofty heights of the structure, and turned back to get a glimpse of the Human Rights Museum thru the spires of the bridge pointing skyward. Finally, I directed my steps back to the Forks Market via the Human Rights Museum grounds. It was a worthy experience, one I hope to return to in the summer time when the lawns and trees and shrubs grown green and the weather is warm.

It’s a one stop shop for everyone. Family friendly, youngsters hub and shopping lovers can all come to one place here. Oh how can I miss foodies. This place has so many food options from kiosks to full fledge restaurants. Let’s begin with the layout of “The forks market” It has multiple entrances with ample parking but still it gets hard to find parking on weekends and some evenings in-spite of the snowfall. I am sure summer would be more vibrant here but a heavy snow day was not less. Inside the layout is very open with high ceilings and all shops on the side and seating area in the middle. Arch’s in the wall will allow you to go in each section. Upstairs is also a big seating area which is more private and used mostly for self study or internet use as there is a bookshop next to it. Interesting local boutique stores are full of all sorts of stuff from crocheting, crockery, plants, clothes, jewellery, wine , candy shop and much more. Full fledge liquor store and local artisan bakery offer exquisite items on menu. I bought local souvenirs, ate at the kiosk of Mexican and Sri Lankan food. How could anyone miss the ice skating either as a spectator which was me or as a participant which was mostly little kids. Ice skates and helmets are available to rent. It’s not only a tourist place but locals favourite activity location.

What an absolute GEM of a place. I was staying at the Inn on the Forks for a conference at the Human Rights Museum (which is itself a breathtaking architectural triumph and monument to human rights). This is a MUST visit spot in Winnipeg (especially if you’re a tourist). Fabulous food on the main floor (I had a memorable Bison sausage at Weinerpeg), a crazy beautiful candy shop, outstanding espresso and a craft beer spot inside (and outside in the summer!). So much more I didn’t mention too. DO NOT miss the upstairs area for really great shopping. An eclectic souvenir shop and a bookstore (rare these days). And a weird and aesthetically gorgeous coworking free space where you can hang out and work, talk, play board games … And outside is a beautiful area to sit with relaxing chairs and tables Truly a unique GEM in Canada, and a lot of interesting Indigenous education as this has been a meeting place for thousands of years and if you visit, you’ll see why.

Oh man, Winnipeg has changed so much! I've been coming here for business over the past three years, and let me tell you, it's like a whole new place now. The south end and the Forks Market are all trendy and happening. You gotta check it out when you're in Canada! And let's talk about the food, dude! Fish and chips, hot pot, and tacos, they've got it all, and it's all freaking delicious. During my last visit, I went all out and ate everything I could get my hands on. No regrets! Only thing I wish for is more shops besides just restaurants, you know? But hey, there's this awesome candy shop that you've got to see. It's pretty cool. Oh, and don't worry about parking, it's paid but super cheap. By the way, while you're there, don't miss out on checking the humane museum nearby. It's worth a visit, for sure. Enjoy your time in Winnipeg, buddy!
