The Golden Reel is one of several new entertainment options at the recently opened Studio City on the Cotai Strip. This is a figure eight shaped ferris wheel, built into the facade of the new hotel. You ride in glass cabins large enough for up to 10 passengers on a 15 minute ride. Opening Hours are 12pm to 8pm (M-F), 11am to 9pm (ST,SN and holidays).
We rode the Golden Reel and found it an enjoyable experience. Visiting on a Sunday, which is a busy day in Macau, we found no queue in the afternoon, walked straight to the ticket booth, bought tickets and went straight to the Golden Reel to try the new ride. As such, seems you can enjoy this particular ride quite quickly, unlike the Batman 4D Dark Flight, which we had to queue up for around 45 minutes.
The glass cabins provide outward views in both directions over the mostly undeveloped land around the Cotai Strip. It is sort of neat seeing the area that will some day be filled with large hotels and casinos. Still fields, wetlands and new properties in development now.
You can also see the sides of the Art Deco style of the Studio City building which sort of curves outward on both sides of the ferris wheel. The property garden and pool areas below are clearly visible as well.
Note: You may want to consider sky conditions before buying Golden Reel tickets. Like visits to Macau Towers, air quality and visibility will greatly affect your overall experience with attractions like these.
Ticket prices for the Golden Reel are HKD100 per person. Alternatively, you can buy one of two Entertainment packages presently on offer. The first is a combo of Golden Reel + Batman Dark Flight - HKD220 per person (savings of HKD30 per person).
They also offer another combo of the Golden Reel, Batman Dark Flight and House of Magic ticket - HKD$550 per person (saving of $150 per person). This is the best deal if you plan to try all three of these new forms of entertainment at Studio City.
Overall, we enjoyed the ferris wheel. Yes, there are certainly better ferris wheels and more beautiful locations to see than the mostly undeveloped Cotai Strip. However, this is still a fun activity for those who enjoy these type attractions as well as families seeking out child-friendly things to...
Read moreIt’s a nice wheel little different from others, already on 23rd floor so it’s huge in height already, people might like it but not recommended for people with heart problems, as when it takes the curve for completing the 8 from the between it might give you goosebumps and when it’s at the top in centre, it’s at great height and give a spectacular view of the whole Macau city. It has glass all over and a small glass portion on the floor too, as compared to other wheels in Asia it’s not huge like them, it can be a good time paas in Macau, the studio city is full of excitements, recommended to visit with family and friends. We don’t need to buy tickets in advance as their in not much rush at the ticket counter, per...
Read moreMentioned in booking info, 15 mins ride and as what the on duty staff at the ferris venue, mentioned to us is 2 rounds. After 1 round, with just about 8 minutes, the staff asked us to come out from the cabin. I felt its been conned. Trip info mentioned 15 mins duration, staff there also mentioned 2 rounds but in the end, been chased out from the staff (aunty) with rude attitude to chase us out from the cabin. Super disappointed. And i felt its not too much difference on the price, to purchase via klook and purchase it...
