One of the interesting sites on Cheung Chau are the ancient rock carvings situated just south of Tung Wan Beach. You will find them up a small set of steps just below the Warwick Hotel. The rock carvings are a declared monument (1982) in Hong Kong are believed to be around 3000 years old.
What you see is are geometric patterns carved into the rock, similar to a handful of other ancient rock carvings that have been found along the island coastlines of Hong Kong. In reality, they don't know who made these, when or why. However, the geometric patterns resemble those found on discovered pottery and bronze vessels from the Bronze Age, giving some indication that they date back to around that time period.
