☝of the *BEST* spots in the Hong Kong to get stuck in the great outdoors is Cheung Chau (長æŽČ Long Island is known as Dumbbell Island due to its resemblance to a dumbbell.) ・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・ đŸ›„ïž Ferries are the only way to get to the island. Cheung Chau is accessible by ferry from Central Pier 5 in Hong Kong, and they operate frequently throughout the day. Monday-Saturday, the last ferry to Central leaves at 11:45pm, and on Sundays and public holidays, it leaves at 11:30pm. đŸȘ…Bun Festival (Jiu), which is typically held during April or early May, near Buddha's birthday, is characterized by colorful parades, lion dances, and a competition to climb mountains made of buns. 🛕Dumbbell Island is home to a significant attraction known as the Tin Hau Temple. A shrine dating back to 200 years is dedicated to the Taoist Goddess of the Sea and offers stunning views of the beach below. đŸ–±ïžCheung Po Tsai Cave was once a place where a notorious pirate commanded thousands of bandits in the 19th century. đŸ›€ïž The Cheung Chau Family Trail is renowned for its distinctive rock formations and stunning beach vistas, referred to as the 'Mini Great Wall of Cheung Chau'. The trail, built in 1997, is roughly 850 metres long and is located near Kwun Yam Beach and Chi Ma Hang headland, southeast of Cheung Chau. The North Lookout Pavilion is a short hike that is highly recommended. đŸ–ïž Holiday visitors love Tung Wan and Kwun Yam Wan, two beaches located on the eastern side of Cheung Chau. Tung Wan Beach is more widely known and preferred. Despite being narrow, it is still fairly commercial with plenty of restaurants and cafĂ©s close by. The beach has the primary facilities (showers, restrooms, lifeguards). Nearby shops offer the option to rent beach umbrellas. đŸœïž Cheung Chau is also known for its thriving street food scene. Various stalls along the waterfront feature local delicacies like fish balls, mango mochi, frozen watermelon slices and fresh seafood that visitors should not miss out on. 🏬 The main Tung Wan Road is where most of the boutique shops are located for shopping. The ❀ Love Lock Wall is another popular tourist attraction where people or couples can hang up locks and heart-shaped wooden plaques to commemorate their visit to the island. đŸ•łïž If you're searching for the perfect blend of cultural experiences, natural beauty, and relaxation, Cheung Chau is the best place to be. đŸ‘đŸŒ ⚠ As I was ascending the trail, I unexpectedly encountered what appeared to be a black cobra. The sight of this snake was unexpected and alarming, adding a thrill to my hike. Please take caution and refrain from leaning on grass and dense vegetation.

A place to refresh and recharge our stressful lifestyle. The egg tart selling at the back alley is super delicious. Can bring kids along to seaside swimming, public toilet with bath area available near the swimming area. Recommended. Travel from Hong Kong Pier No 5 take about 1 hour by ferry.

leisure day in cheung chau yaya

long time no come here since schooling time laaa, even we didn’t go for hiking this time but still fun having time together with treasured friendssss here for a day(;

If you don’t go hiking, actually there’re not many places to visit, we first go to the main street to fill up our stomach haaa, we tried some snacks food including durian mochi, fried ice cream and Portuguese tart, egg tart and coconut tart, i like the bakery most haa, really recommend the local bakery Hong Lan Bakery having really great tarts stuff there haa, worth for waiting til 230pm for their freshly baked tarts, gusss on the must try list in cheung cha

after buying foods, we go to Tung Wan Beach to enjoy the sea view, even we feel so lucky not raining today after two weeks crazy raining period, but sitting in the beach at the noon indeed too shiny and hot for us, not having strong wind at all, and the beach view actually just okkk, cant say it’s a very beautiful beach

little reminder if you don’t want to sit in the sand, there’re some bench when you walk few steps further sosad we know when we leave

you can enjoy some paintings on the wall elsewhere in cheung chau, the theme mainly cheung chau Bun Festival, cool having some arts element surrounding us haaa

later, we go to have a look at Pak Tai Temple and walked a bit to the north along the Cheung chau family walk and see Scenic Bay Beach, this one having better view than Tung Wan Beach, we left after taking few pics cause having too many flies here laaaa so crazy having many bites sosad my leg

we can’t endure the hot weather anymore and we went to the library which saved us haa, good to have the feeling of going back to the school as before yaya

after a break, we go to have a seafood dinner in cheung chau to end our beautiful day, and we have picked Chiu Fat Seafood Restaurant, the food indeed delicious and surprised us very well cause their cheap price and good service haaa, so nice aunt helping us to take pics haa thankyou

nice we catched the sunset, even not many places to visit if you don’t go hiking, but still good enough for you to spend a lovely day here yaya good day(;

Cheung Chau is an outlying island south of Lantau and a popular place for day trips from HK Island, Kowloon and other regions of Hong Kong. It can be visited by way of ferries, including Central Pier 5 on HK Island and other pier stations located at places such as Mui Wo and other outlying islands such as Peng Chau.

This island has a long history of habitation that dates back at least 400 years. Presently around 22,000 reside on Cheung Chau, which is around 2.5 square kilometres, offering plenty of space for sightseeing, rural exploration and leisure time on this slow paced island and seaside community.

There is a fair amount to do/see around Cheung Chau, enough to justify a half day or full day on the island. If you want to stay longer, there are a few hotel accommodations available as well. On Cheung Chau, there are a handful of interesting temples, including the very attractive Pek Tai Temple. There are other interesting heritage attractions and some good hiking opportunities, particularly in the south of Cheung Chau. The Tung Wan Beach is a popular location, the village market is nice for exploring and there is a nice range of restaurants and bars available as well.

In the end, plenty to keep you busy on Cheung Chau. Its a good opportunity to get away from the busy city streets of Hong Kong and to enjoy quieter, more relaxed environs of this...
