đ„ïž Ferries are the only way to get to the island. Cheung Chau is accessible by ferry from Central Pier 5 in Hong Kong, and they operate frequently throughout the day. Monday-Saturday, the last ferry to Central leaves at 11:45pm, and on Sundays and public holidays, it leaves at 11:30pm.
đȘ Bun Festival (Jiu), which is typically held during April or early May, near Buddha's birthday, is characterized by colorful parades, lion dances, and a competition to climb mountains made of buns.
đDumbbell Island is home to a significant attraction known as the Tin Hau Temple. A shrine dating back to 200 years is dedicated to the Taoist Goddess of the Sea and offers stunning views of the beach below.
đ±ïžCheung Po Tsai Cave was once a place where a notorious pirate commanded thousands of bandits in the 19th century.
đ€ïž The Cheung Chau Family Trail is renowned for its distinctive rock formations and stunning beach vistas, referred to as the 'Mini Great Wall of Cheung Chau'. The trail, built in 1997, is roughly 850 metres long and is located near Kwun Yam Beach and Chi Ma Hang headland, southeast of Cheung Chau. The North Lookout Pavilion is a short hike that is highly recommended.
đïž Holiday visitors love Tung Wan and Kwun Yam Wan, two beaches located on the eastern side of Cheung Chau. Tung Wan Beach is more widely known and preferred. Despite being narrow, it is still fairly commercial with plenty of restaurants and cafĂ©s close by. The beach has the primary facilities (showers, restrooms, lifeguards). Nearby shops offer the option to rent beach umbrellas.
đœïž Cheung Chau is also known for its thriving street food scene. Various stalls along the waterfront feature local delicacies like fish balls, mango mochi, frozen watermelon slices and fresh seafood that visitors should not miss out on.
đŹ The main Tung Wan Road is where most of the boutique shops are located for shopping.
The â€ïž Love Lock Wall is another popular tourist attraction where people or couples can hang up locks and heart-shaped wooden plaques to commemorate their visit to the island. đłïž
If you're searching for the perfect blend of cultural experiences, natural beauty, and relaxation, Cheung Chau is the best place to be. đđŒ
â ïž As I was ascending the trail, I unexpectedly encountered what appeared to be a black cobra. The sight of this snake was unexpected and alarming, adding a thrill to my hike. Please take caution and refrain from leaning on grass and...
