Chung Chung Island: A Must-Go Place in Hong Kong Looking for a scenic escape in Hong Kong? Chung Chung Island is the perfect spot to unwind. This hidden gem offers breathtaking coastal views, with a cozy **beverage café** right next to the beach—a must-visit for an unforgettable sunset. You might need to wait for the ideal moment, but trust me, the view is worth it. One of the highlights is the photo booth with a stunning beach backdrop, ideal for capturing the beauty of the island. From here, you can spot Lamma Island in the distance, adding to the charm of the location. For adventure seekers, the island boasts surfing on a manmade machine, offering a thrilling experience for beginners and seasoned surfers alike. There’s also a safe swimming zone, monitored by dedicated beach watchmen, ensuring a secure environment for all visitors. If you're up for more excitement, windsurfing in the open sea is another fantastic option, though you might need a professional license. Whether you're here for relaxation or adventure, Chung Chung Island is a perfect getaway to enjoy nature, the sea, and unforgettable moments.

Tung Wan in Dec is quiet, cool (or chilling, depending if there is a cold front from the north hitting HK) and relaxing. The day I went there it had a water temp of 20 deg C and ambient temp 16. That is, it's actually warmer to submerge in the water than walking on the beach. Like most beaches in HK, water quality in winter is very nice

The beach itself is ok, its depth is very fast and the sand is a little grainy. There are hardly any beach chairs or parasols that are so old and rickety. Not very attractive. There is no good hotel or bar, more shabby and the charm of the 70s. An overpriced beach bar that only serves drinks. In advance, it is very empty, the Chinese may not like swimming or not swimming. The beautiful view of Hong Kong’s skyline when the...

I do enjoy coming to Cheung Chau for the beaches as I live on Lantau Island where there are not any offshore rafts which you can swim out to. Do beware that the beach gets very busy and crowded on weekends and public holidays– especially during Chinese New Year when the whole of Cheung Chau is flooded by people. There is a smaller beach further along which is less busy, and also has a...
